Swatch Video: J.Cat Beauty Liptitude 24/7 Lip StainsWIld

jcat lipstick

Hey loves,

I uploaded a video to my Youtube channel last night! I think Friday may become my upload day? I dunno, still working on it. Anyway, I did a review + lip swatches of 5 out of 14 of the new J.Cat Beauty hydrating lip stains.

A few quick things:

These are highly pigmented.

They are semi matte.

The red ones do stain.

I love the heck out of this formula and the colors I swatched.

I bought all of these myself, except for the two that I got off Ipsy, but I also pay for that subscription every month.

The more I try from J.Cat Beauty, the more impressed I am. This formula is awesome, and until the August 1st you can get 25% off on these on their site.

Please watch my video and let me know what you think and if you like lip swatch videos!

Coming next week: Swatches of the Wet n Wild “High Flying Colors” palette

Hey, I’ve Posted 200 Times Now

IMG_4791

Hey everyone,

While I was brainstorming for ideas and replying to comments, I noticed that I have posted 200 posts on my blog! Well, once this post goes up it will be 200, but you know what I mean. That’s a lot of typing, and because I do reviews and stuff it’s been a lot of swatching and looking at lipstick stain tattoos grace my arms for almost a year now. It’s actually a joke with my family now, they’re always expecting to see some lipstick on my arms. They’re my “temporary tattoos.”

When I started this blog, I didn’t really have a purpose. I posted here and there and had no schedule. I was feeling down and very depressed. My anxiety was inhibiting me from leaving many days and I just felt like something had to give. When I brought up the idea of blogging mostly about makeup and beauty to my mom, she agreed that it might be good for me to have a creative outlet. It would give me something that is solely “mine” and would give me some consistency in the midst of the total chaos that is being a mom of two very small children.

To say that blogging has essentially saved my life in some ways is an understatement. I feel like I have a voice now. I have ever made friends, which if you read my post about my friendships (and lack thereof) the past few years, you will know that it’s a big deal for me. I absolutely love the blogging community as a whole. Sure, there are some negative areas, but most of the areas have brought nothing but positivity into my life. I consider each of you my friend.

Blogging isn’t just for my own self gain though. I truly adore and appreciate every single person that follows me and supports me. I can’t count the times I have caught myself smiling at a comment someone has left, and I have even been in tears at times. Good tears. The happy kind that reinforce that I do have a small place on the internet. A place to show the passion for makeup and pretty colors since I was a toddler. I have loved watching all of your blogs, if you have one, grow.

So, for my 200th post, I wanted to write out how grateful I am for every person reading this now. I mean that from the bottom of my heart. You have all helped me climb out of one of the darkest places I have been in. I’m sure that if my daughters could fully grasp what was going on with me a year ago and see the difference now, they would be thanking you all as well. I’m in a way better place now than I was a year ago. I still have a lot to work on, but I will continue to cope and try to be better for my kids sakes.

I love blogging. I’m still a very small blogger, but that’s okay with me. Numbers do not concern me. I told myself in the beginning that I will always prefer 200 people following me that read and engage with me than 2,000 that do not any day. I still mean that. Even if I stopped blogging tomorrow, I would still buy lipstick. I would still be reading your posts and ogling over your makeup collections. So, I might as well just continue to type it out.

Here’s to 200 posts, and to 200 more. I don’t plan on stopping any time soon. Thank you to every single person that follows me, likes my posts, retweets my tweets on twitter. You are all so special, and I just wanted to express that in a short post today.

You have all had a deep impact on my life, whether you know it or not.

Have a good day.

-Kayla

Lip Monthly June 2015

lip monthly june

Hey beauties,

Another unbagging post! Hells yeah! Today I will be going over what I got in my Lip Monthly bag this month and also giving my thoughts on it. If you’re unfamiliar with Lip Monthly, it’s a lot like Ipsy, but with more lip products. It’s a lipstick addict’s dream subscription, honestly. It’s $10 a month and most of the time I get full sized products and there’s typically a “makeup mix up” with one product that isn’t a lip product, which is nice.

I don’t recommend this subscription if you don’t absolutely love lip products or if you don’t collect and try out different brands often. I have had my months with this subscription where I have been less than satisfied, but lately they seem to have stepped up their game.

IMG_7406

1. Jelly Pong Pong Paradise Pigment I’ve gotten a little thing from this brand before, and I hated it, so hopefully this little guy will redeem the brand for me. Jelly Pong Pong has to be the oddest brand name I’ve ever heard, but this packaging is adorable. This pigment is a very bright pink and can be used on the cheeks and lips. When I swatched it, it felt very smooth and creamy, and I hope it transfers that well onto my face. This retails at $19.95

IMG_7407

2. J.Cat single eyeshadow “Mud wrestle” This was the “makeup mixup” product. I’ve never tried a J.Cat shadow, but I will sy the color is a very nice cool toned brown, and the texture reminds me of the Nyx single shadows. I don’t reach for single shadows often, but I feel this shade might make for a nice transtition shade. It retails at $2.99.

IMG_7411

3. So Susan Colour Hybrid “Marsala” The last So Susan product I received was a lip dome that I wasn’t too impressed with, but I would like to say that their products are always so adorably packaged. This is a mousse type textured pigment that can be used on the lips or cheeks. The color is a very nice Marsala shade, and I’m more hopeful about this than I was the lip dome. This product retails at $17.50 and is full sized

IMG_7412

4. Be a Bombshell Lipstick “Hollywood” If you’re familiar with me, you’ll know that I live and die over red lipstick. I was extremely happy to see this in my bag. The packaging is awesome. I love bullet shaped tubes, they just give off a vintage vibe. The color is really nice, and is a true bright pin-up type of red. It’s not a matte finish, and it’s not the most pigmented lipstick I’ve ever swatched, but the shade and formula are nice. This retails at $14

Left to right: Jelly Pong Pog "Cakepop," Be a Bombshell "Hollywood," So Susan "Marsala," J.Cat "Mud Wrestle"

Left to right: Jelly Pong Pog “Cakepop,” Be a Bombshell “Hollywood,” So Susan “Marsala,” J.Cat “Mud Wrestle”

That’s everything that I got this month! I’m pretty happy with everything, and I can’t wait to sit down and play with some of these products more. The total retail of this bag was $54.44, which is really high value for a subscription bag.

If there is anything you all are more interested in seeing a full review on alone or used in a look, please let me know!

As always, thanks for reading and I hope you are all having wonderful days!

Dear Moon Piper

Dear Moon Piper (Piper Luna),

You’re a year old today. You stormed into my life in every way, and a bit literally in one way. One day I was asking your dad if we could try again for another baby in about 6 months, and the week after that talk I was telling him that I was already pregnant. A year ago today I didn’t even know I was in labor, you snuck out of the womb like a tiny little ninja. You were born a little after 9 pm, just three hours shy of being born on your father’s birthday. You wanted your own birthday, and I get that.

I look back now and I know that I needed you before I even knew I needed you.

IMG_0418 IMG_0428

I would be lying if I said I wasn’t scared. I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to love another child as much as Harmony and would neglect you in some ways, because it felt like my heart was already overflowing. You proved me wrong, and my heart grew to accommodate the pure adoration that I felt the moment I laid eyes on you.

Your birth signifies so much more to me than just the day you came earth side. Your birth was the day I took control of my body, and after years of hearing “You can’t do that” from doctors, I proved them wrong. I was able to take control of my body and mind in ways that I had never thought possible. Instead of feeling trapped, I felt free. You helped me feel free again. I had the most empowering birth experience, and you were the star of the night. You are my little Moon Piper, born swiftly under the dim light of the moon. Five minutes after you were born, it started to storm. I can still remember the sound of rain hitting the ground so hard, because it mimicked the sound of my heart as I took everything in about you. You came into this world so quietly, as if you’ve already been here before.

IMG_0570 IMG_0592

It’s been a year since I first held you. A year since I looked into the eyes of my second baby girl and felt my vision get fuzzy and the world stop in its tracks. A year since I looked into giant eyes that mirrored my own. A year since your very first latch, and a year since the first time I held your tiny hand in mine and noticed the dimples that reflect the ones on my hands. A year since I noticed how observant you were, even as a newborn. A year since I watched your dad become the proud father of a gorgeous daughter once again.

IMG_0962

Now we’ve made it to a year of breastfeeding, and you’re walking more and more everyday. Now I look into blue eyes that are turning green, and the little bits of blonde hair that grace your otherwise bald scalp. You have a way of making others smile, and I don’t think you’ve ever met a stranger. I’ve had so many people approach me just to mention your giant smile and pretty eyes. You seem to have the exact opposite personality as myself and your sister, but that’s honestly something that we both need.

I need your smile. I need your giant eyes to give me a bit of optimism. I need your little arms reaching around me to snuggle. I’ve needed you all of my life, I just didn’t know it until you arrived Earth side. You don’t laugh very often, but when you do it’s enough to lighten up the darkest of places. In that sense, you remind me so much of my dad and my granny. Your laugh is so special, and it resonates deeply in my mind and heart.

IMG_1311

You have a love for everyone, and I can tell you’re going to be someone that sees the good in all people. That’s something that I don’t want you to lose. I want you to see the good in the world. I want you to see that good and change others, because I know you can with the kindness you show to so many at such an early age. You’ve helped your sister open up a bit more herself, and I know that she needs you as well, even if a few years down the line it might not seem that way.

Your smile and adventurous personality have inspired me so much over the past year. You’ve inspired me to look around at the wonders around me a bit more, and you’ve inspired me to write and create more. I can’t recall a single morning when you were an infant where you didn’t wake up with a smile on your face.

IMG_2596

Moon Piper, you are so incredibly special. You will always mean so much more to me than you will ever know. I can’t explain gracefully just what your presence in my life means to me, but I will spend my life trying to express it with words. A year ago my world changed once again, and in the absolute best way possible. I would endure the med-free labor I did with you 1,000 times over again just to experience the overwhelming amount of love I felt the moment I was finally able to place you on my chest. Every bit of pain I felt in that intense labor was worth it for that one moment of relief I felt the moment I looked at you. It was an instant pain reliever.

IMG_6258

Happy birthday, Moon Piper. I can’t believe a year has already passed. I can still remember the intoxicating smell of your newborn skin.  I can still remember the long nights I spent sitting up nursing you and gazing at your sleepy face. A year later I’m watching you play and walk. I now imagine what kind of toddler you’ll be, because there’s a part of me that thinks I will be chasing after you fairly often. A part of me is sad, because I wish I could slow time down. I wish I could sit in our chair forever and cuddle. I don’t think there’s a human being on this planet that loves to cuddle more than you.

IMG_5197 IMG_6009

I wish I could experience every moment with you 100 times again before we moved on to the next moment. Unfortunately, I cannot, and here we are a year later. Here you are walking and babbling, and here I am crying because I swear I just brought you home yesterday. I hope first birthday on Earth is so happy. You deserve it and so much more. You’ve helped to pull me out of one of the darkest seasons of my life. Your first year here has made such an impact on me and everyone that has met you, and I know you’re going to help change this world.

Love,

Your Mom

Ipsy Unbagging June 2015

ipsy june

Hey lovelies,

Is everyone staying cool as we march into Summer? Personally, I stay inside a lot during the Summer. I can’t stand the heat. The sweating and burns…it’s just not my idea of fun. I think I will just chill out until Fall arrives.

Anyway, it’s that time of the month where foiled envelopes filled with wee tiny samples arrive at my doorstep! Today I will be doing my Ipsy unbagging. For those that may be unfamiliar with Ipsy, it’s a beauty bag subscription that costs $10 a month and everyone receieves 4-5 deluxe sample and/or full sized products based on their beauty profile. I’ve been subscribed to Ipsy for a little over 2 years now, but I did take a 3 month break.

This month the theme was swimming and being poolside, hence the cute snorkeling pig in my photo.

The bag this month is black with a neon orange zipper, and the material feels like a waterproof almost bathing suit like material. I actually like this bag, and it’s small enough to keep in my diaper bag and the material would be nice to put a little bathing suit in if I take my daughters to a splash pad.

IMG_7400

1. Tre’StiQue Mini Shadow Crayon “Kona Coffee” I was a bit confused when I pulled this out because the lid actually looks like a pencil top. I thought I was sent an opened product, but it turns out it was only the lid. This little eyeshadow crayon claims to be long lasting and creamy, and based on my swatch (will show at the end of the post) this little crayon is very smooth and creamy indeed. I’m happy that I got the dark brown color because I know I will use it, probably to smudge out my lash line on days that I want a day time smokey eye.

IMG_7399

2. J. Cat Beauty Liptitude Hydrating Lip Stain “Hikilicious” This is a full sized lip product, and I believe it is actually a new release by J. Cat. I will admit that when I saw “lip stain” my first thought was “bleh” because I don’t normally wear lip stains. If I’m not wearing something opaque on my lips there’s nothing on my lips at all. However, this product is EXTREMELY pigmented and hydrating. So far, I’m in love with it. I hope that J. Cat comes out with more colors because this formula is fantastic.

IMG_7398

3. Smashbox Photo Finish Primer This is a deluxe sample size, and I will be honest I will not use this. I’ve sampled this before and it made my foundation look horrendous. It has that weird silicone feeling, and silicone based primers do not work at all on my skin. It looks like I applied my makeup with a stick of butter after a few hours. I’ll probably be passing this one on to someone else.

IMG_7391

4. It Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Brow Pencil This sample is one that I was really happy to get this month! I’ve been wanting to try out more things by It Cosmetics for awhile, and this brow pencil looks pretty neat. It comes with two sides, one being a spoolie, which is awesome. The tip of the pencil is not sharp, it’s actually oval shaped which is supposed to give a more “natural” look to the brow. I’m pretty loyal to my pomades, but I will be trying this one out. I’m a bit of a brow product junkie.

IMG_7397

5. LaVanilla Laboratories Pure Vanilla Body Butter This is a pretty good sized sample, and it smells incredible. I put this on my hands and it smelled like I was burped on by a glorious bouquet of vanilla cookies. I prefer body butters over lotions because I find them to be more hydrating on me. Even if this wasn’t hydrating, the smell alone is intoxicating. I have a weird thing for vanilla to begin with…

That’s everything I got in my Ipsy Bag this month! I am excited about 4/5 things this month, which is pretty good in terms of beauty subscriptions.

Do you get Ipsy? What did you get?

I hope you all enjoyed this post, and I will see everyone next time with some more fun things! I still have my Lip Monthly bag to review this month, and I have some tips and tricks posts that I will be doing over the next few weeks.

Have a great day, lovelies.

Unboxing: Target Summer Beauty Box

summer target beauty box

Hey beauties,

Today I have an unboxing! I will be showing you all what I got in my Target Beauty Box this Summer. Every season, Target releases beauty boxes that have deluxe sample sizes and full sized products, and are pretty high value. They are usually $7, and the shipping is free, and if you have a Target debit card you can snag an extra 5% off! There is no true “subscription” with this box, and it’s on a first come, first serve basis. I will say that these boxes sell out very quickly every time they’re released, so if you ever see one in stock and want it, just get it.

This season’s bag was valued at $40, and I received 5 items in my bag. I think that for the most part everyone received the same scheme of products with some variances here and there.

Without further adieu, let’s get on to the the unboxing!

IMG_7259

1. Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Styling Creme– Deluxe sample size valued at about $6. I love Fekkai products! They’re a bit out of my price range, so getting big samples like these makes me so happy. I’m really excited to try this one because it claims to tame frizzy hair, and boy do I need that in the Summer time in the humid South. This is one of the products that I’ve seen vary between boxes.

2. Olay Regenerist Luminous Hydraswirl Eye Cream– This is actually the product that caught my eye the most when I ordered this box online. This is a full sized product and retails at $23! I have tried this out a few times, and I do like it. It’s unscented and gives a nice glow to my under eyes, cancelling out the purple that’s naturally under my eyes.

3. Sinful Colors Nail Polish “Boom Boom”– The retail value of this is $1.99, and though this is a lovely pink shade, I don’t wear pink nail polishes often. I may be setting this one aside for an upcoming giveaway *wink wink*

4. Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick in “Gladiolus-” Retail of this is $8, and it’s full sized! I haven’t had a chance to wear this shade on my lips yet, but I have swatched it and it felt very smooth and buttery!

5. Cutex Advanced Revival Nail Polish Remover Wipes– There are 3 of these in the box and that comes to about a little over $1. I have used one the pads already, and I put it to the test with a deep burgundy shade, and it cleared all the polish off in with one pad! I was impressed, and I will use these up. Will I repurchase? Probably not for awhile since I have loads of acetone stored away, but these are very nice.

Total Box Value: $40

There were also 2 coupons in this box, one for $3 off a $15 beauty purchase at Target (can also be stacked with manufacturers coupons as well) and a $1 off a Revlon product.

Overall, I’m really happy with this seasons beauty box! Did you snag one or more of these boxes? What did you get? Will you be getting one in the future?

As always, thank you for reading, and I hope you are all having wonderful days!

ColourPop Highlighters

IMG_6679

Hey beauties,

I have another fun review today with swatches of some of my favorite things to collect right now…highlighters! Highlighters can accent parts of the face we want to bring out, and they can give us a luminous glow. I love playing around with highlighters, and lately I have been wanting to add some different kinds to my wee collection.

Okay, so if you follow me on Instagram or have watched my last tutorial, you probably already know that I’ve had these highlighters for a bit and I am sorry that I am just now getting around to reviewing and swatching them. I wanted to test them out a few times before I gave a full review! We all know how much I love Colourpop products, but how did these measure up to the things that already chill out in my collection? Keep reading to find out!

When I ordered off Colourpop (before my latest order, I’m always ordering off that site *sigh*) I hauled a few highlighters because I really wanted to try some of these out.

I will say that while ordering I had trouble even coming up with 3 that I wanted to try because the majority of them either looked the same to me, or would be more of a blush/bronzer on me than a highlight. However, I did end up finding 3 to try out that I felt would be suitable for my paler-than-the-moon skin.

I ended up getting “Hippo” “Smoke N Whistles” and “Spoon.”

Price: $8 each, same as the blushes

Consistency: Much like the blushes, buttery but a creamy-powdery type of texture.

colourpop highlighter

As you can tell, the packaging is the same standard packaging, but the highlighters lack the neat-o pattern on top that their other products have. I don’t mind, personally. I always feel bad for sticking my fingers into pretty patterns and ruining them quickly.

These highlighters are much like the blushes and feel creamy, but have a powder finish on the skin. They are much like the blushes, but in my opinion these feel softer and are easier to apply than the blushes. I will say that these highlighters have glitter in them…or at least the ones I ordered do. So, if you’re not about the shimmery highlight, these may not be for you. I’m all about that glitter life though, and I will say that these look less glittery on the cheeks than they do on the actual swatches.

As for application, these apply the same as the blushes as well. Best with your fingers (most pigmentation) but you can use a brush if you prefer. I prefer to use a brush, and lately the brush I have been using is the highlight end of my City Color Cosmetics dual ended contour brush. The Highlight side is pretty stiff and shaped like a paddle., so I feel it picks up the right amount of product. The Real Techniques expert face brush works well, also.

The one thing I will say is that if you have dry skin, you may want to apply these gently and build up. I kinda went a bit too glowy all at once the first time and messed my foundation up a bit in the process. When I applied it gently and buffed it out slowly I had no issue. I didn’t find that the product in general clung to dry spots or looked patchy on my skin though. It was probably just my mistake because makeup makes me so happy that I sometimes forget to breathe and think while applying, but I figured I would throw that tid bit out there just in case.

Staying power: these do last all day I feel. I will say that my skin is naturally dry so face products do stick to me (literally) for a bit longer, but after watching several other reviews on these I haven’t seen many people say that these didn’t last long on them.

IMG_6866

Swatches left to right: Smoke n Whistles, Spoon, Hippo

Smoke n Whistles: a champagne shade with a teeny bit of reflective pink in it.

Spoon: a champagne with silver sparkle

Hippo: cool toned lavender

I find that all of these suite my skin tone sooo well. Even though Smoke n Whistles and Spoon are champagne shades, the pink shimmer makes a huge difference between the two.

My favorite of these has to be Hippo. I can’t seem to put it down. If you have cool toned skin, you NEED this highlighter in your life. It’s so beautiful and has this lavender duo-chrome look to it. I find it hard to find “unique” highlighter shades that I can pull off with my skin tone, and Hippo is a very unique highlight that pairs so well with cool toned looks.

All 3 are absolutely gorgeous though, and I do recommend these to anyone that has been wanting to place an order.

There’s a great range of shades on their site, including some that would probably work best as blushes or blush toppers. There’s a few deeper shades that could be blushes on those with lighter skin tones, and they interest me quite a bit, honestly.

Overall, I’m really happy with this product and as usual, Colourpop knows how to release products. They always seem to release a pretty awesome range of shades so that everyone can find something.

Have you tried these highlighters out? What are your thoughts on them? After looking at more swatches and seeing more people rave about Monster, I think that’s one I’m going to pick up on my next order. Because, have you see the new quad Dani from CoffeeBreakwithDani has came up with?!? I’m gonna need it.

As always, thanks for reading, and have a great Saturday!

One Palette, Five Looks: Innerstellar Palette

IMG_3506 IMG_3507

Hey lovelies,

I was tagged by the lovely Kaily at Someday Sunny quite some time ago to create 5 different looks using one palette. It’s not that I haven’t wanted to do this tag, I didn’t know what palette I wanted to use for a hot minute. I wanted to use something that I love and haven’t used as much lately, but is still available.

After much thought, I went with the Kat Von D Innerstellar palette. Why? Well, for one it’s one of my favorite palettes. The galaxy type colors inspire me in a big way, and I feel this palette is very versatile and has a great mix of mattes and shimmers. It’s also limited edition and with the release of Kat Von D’s summer collection coming up in July, I don’t know how much longer this palette will be available. So, I wanted to show how gorgeous it is in one dedicated post for those that might still be on the fence about it, or don’t use cool toned shadows often. If you’re unfamiliar with this palette, I will link my review with swatches and all of the names at the end of this post along with Kaily’s original post.

This palette is super cool toned. It is the coolest (officially my worst pun) but it is so gorgeous, so without further adieu, let’s move on to the 5 looks I did.

Look five: Would it be a post by me if I didn’t add a look with a raccoon-esque feel and odd lip color? Probably not.

For this look I applied Maybelline’s color tattoo in “tough as taupe” on the outer and inner corners on the top lid, and messily ran it on the lower lash line as well. The key word for this look was “messy”

Transition/blending shade: Astrological

Outer/Inner corner shade: Night Crawler

Middle shade: Moonshine

Lower lash line: astrolgical and killing moon blending far down to create that killer raccoon smokey eye.

Brow shade: Lycan

Liner and lashes: Physicians formula eye booster pen, Kiss #11 lashes

Contour: Nyx blush in “taupe”

Blush: Wet n Wild “Pearlescent Pink”

Highlight: Elf “Moonlight Pearls:

Lips: Manic Panic’s “After Midnight” topped with Kat Von D’s “Poe.”

I know this look isn’t for everyone. I wanted to add a bit of my own pizazz in though.

Anyway, those are my five looks for this lovely and fun tag! I’m not going to tag anyone in particular, and here’s why…I think this is something everyone that has an abundance of eyeshadow palettes should do. This tag actually re-sparked my love for this palette, and I haven’t been able to put it down even after doing these looks! I actually want to do this with more palettes in my collection. It’s a fun challenge to create different looks with the same palette. It forced me to use different bases, techniques, and color combinations. I even learned that the shade “Vast” doubles as an amazing contour shade for paler skin tones. Seriously, if you own this palette, try it as a contour.

I hope you all enjoyed this post, because I had so much fun doing this.

As always, thanks for reading and I hope you are all having wonderful days.

Hardcandy Ombre Baked Blush and Highlighter Duo

hard cany

Hey lovelies,

Today I wanted to share a few products that I have had for awhile and have been meaning to review and swatch. If you’re new here, there’s something you should know: I love Hard Candy makeup. I think they’re an underrated drugstore brand and I wish I saw more people talking about their products! There are some misses, but lately they have been coming out with some stellar and affordable products, and I want to share a few with you all today.

The two products I want to share are an ombre baked blush and a highlighter duo. The baked blush I believe is permanent, but the heart shaped highlighter is not, sadly.

If you’re unfamiliar with Hard Candy, they’re a Walmart exclusive brand that is also cruelty free. I have done a review of their new Natural Eyes palette that I will link at the end of this post.

First up, this baked blush. Can we just admire it for a second? It’s so gorgeous. I love baked blushes in general because I find them to be pigmented and shimmery, so many times they act as a highlighter-blush in one. No need for extra steps in my routine on a busy morning? Score! What’s unique about this ombre blush though is that you can kind of “customize” the shade you want based on where you apply your brush. You can go to the white side for just a highlight. You could go on the other side for an intense pink, or somewhere in the middle for a very pretty pink glow. It’s up to you!

This product is very pigmented and swatches very well. It looks beautiful on the cheeks. I have the shade “punch” but I’m really tempted to go and pick up the other shade as well. I find that it doesn’t take much at all to get color to your cheeks, so be wary of that if you’re not into the intense Snow White kind of look (I am, not gonna lie).

Swatches shown left to right: highlight side alone, everything swirled together, pink side alone

See, it’s totally like getting 3 colors in one product! I love this little baked blush.

Highlighter duo: First off, the cute little heart tin packaging spoke to me. So reminiscent of the Too Faced heart-shaped boxed blushes. It’s not as fancy as the Too Faced ones, but it’s still cute in terms of drugstore packaging. This was part of the collection Hard Candy released for their 20th anniversary.

There are two sides, obviously. A lighter and darker side. I didn’t know how the darker side would look on my fair skin, but surprisingly this product leans more on the “natural glow” side than the “wam bam highlighter in yo face” side. There’s no visible glitter in it. The texture and finish reminds me much of Physician’s Formula highlighters, and those are my absolute favorite highlighters in the drugstore.

This duo felt very soft and buttery to the touch. You can tell when you touch it that it is finely milled. I’ve also seen people depot the heart very easily by just popping the little booger out and into a z-palette, if that’s something you would want to do.

Because this is a duo, you can use either side or mix both shades together. The swatches I have are of just each side.

I had to go over each swatch a few times simply because this product really does give a natural glow and it’s pretty hard to overdo it.

It lasted fairly well on my face, but I will say that after about 8 hours it seemed to fade away. I don’t touch up many times throughout the day, so that’s something to keep in mind if you’re wanting to wear this all day…it might fade after awhile. Would this be work appropriate? Yes. Appropriate for a night out at the club? Maybe not.

I will say that overall I’m happy with this little tin of prettiness, and I think this will look pretty in the Fall when I want a more toned done “glow from within” type of look. It’s a very pretty champagne highlighter that is pretty good quality in terms of drugstore highlights. Do I like this more than my holy grail Physicians Formula?? No, but I do think this is a nice and cute thing to add to your collection if you’re a Hard Candy lover.

As always, thanks for reading this post if you made it this far, and if you’re new here I hope you stay awhile!

Ipsy Unbagging: May 2015

ipsy april

Hello, Jetsetters

I have an Ipsy unbagging for you all today, and yes, the theme is “Jetsetters” for the month. Remember when I said that last month’s bag was my all time favorite? I changed my mind, this is my new favorite bag. Seriously look at how freakin’ cute it is. There were several bags that were given out, and from what I’ve seen they’re all cute.

Anyway, if you’re new here a quick description of Ipsy is that it’s a beauty subscription that arrives at your doorstep once a month, and costs $10 per month. Each person takes a beauty quiz of sorts and is given 4-5 full sized or deluxe sample sized beauty items based on that quiz. There’s typically a pretty good mixture of high end and indie/non mainstream brands, especially lately it seems. I really feel that the Ipsy has stepped their game up and they are sending out some incredible things, or at least in my opinion they are.

bellapiere gel liner

The first thing I want to share from my bag is this BellaPierre gel liner. I wasn’t too thrilled about getting another liner, because I have about 10 that I need to use up from other beauty services…but then I swatched this one. I swatched it and it didn’t budge. I washed dishes, rubbed it with my hands…everything. It’s also very very creamy and smooth. I have a feeling that with allergy season upon us this liner may be my new best friend. Because there’s nothing better than being halfway through your day and having an intense sneeze fit and suddenly looking like a sad raccoon.

Okay, I will admit that I squealed a bit when I saw this in my glamroom. I’m a lip product junkie, I know it. I embrace it. Or rather, my lip products are always embracing my lips in some way (ha!). In my bag this month I got a mini pencil (still a good amount of product) of Urban Decay’s 24/7 lip priming pencil. This pencil from what I gathered is supposed to prime and blur out imperfections on the lips. I have a feeling this will come in handy now that I have an HD camera and every little line can now be seen on my lips. I also got two little lipgloss samples in “Failbait” and “Bittersweet.” I’m normally not a fan of samples like these because I never use them, but Urban Decay is one of my favorite brands so chances are these will be used. I’m honestly dying to try that purple gloss out sometime soon.

IMG_6658

This was the other thing I was most excited about this month. I received a Luxie tapered blending eye brush, and I die over anything and everything rose gold. I actually ordered the Luxie angled face brush when they had a sale on it and I use that brush constantly for blush and it’s probably my prettiest brush I own. So, I was naturally excited to see I was going to be adding a new little rose gold pretty to my collection. Blending brushes are something I never seem to have enough of.

IMG_6659

Last, but not least, I received a deluxe sample of the Briogeo leave in conditioning spray and a sample of the Amie morning-dew mattifying moisturizer. I use leave in conditioners CONSTANTLY on my hair since I have naturally coarse and frizzy hair, so the spray I’m pretty excited about. I typically don’t use hair samples (I forget to, oops) but that one I will use.

I’m happy about the moisturizer, just not too sure how it’s going to be on my skin yet. A “dew” mattifying moisturizer seems like a bit of an oxymoron to me, but I will try it at some point.

Overall, I’m really happy with this month’s Ipsy bag! I feel that their sample game has been strong the past few months. If you’re subscribed to Ipsy, what did you get in your bag? Are you happy with it? Comment your thoughts or link me to your blog posts ❤

I have no idea if I should start doing “follow up” posts with my subscription bags, so if that’s something that would interest you, feel free to tell me! Or maybe I should make the follow up a video with a look put together with some of my favorite things received? I have no idea, ha!

As always, thank you for reading, and I hope that if you’re new to my blog you will decide to stay and follow me for a wee bit!
