Quick Review: City Color Shimmer Shadows

city color shimmer shadows

Hey lovelies,

If you follow me on instagram, you’ve probably already seen this picture. I put together a short and sweet little swatch post, but I also wanted to touch on a few other things here on the blog because I personally don’t like having 100 line Instagram captions.

To be clear, even though I am an affiliate with City Color, I purchased these shadows myself last weekend during a sale. City Color had a sale every week last month, and one weekend these shimmer shadows were 50% off. These are already very affordable at $6.99 each, so when I saw they were $3.50 I snagged the shades I’ve been wanting to try.

If you follow Dupe That on Instagram, you’ve more than likely seen these compared to the Kat Von D shimmer shadows which are a whopping $21 each. Don’t get me wrong, they’re gorgeous, but single shadows have never been something I’ve felt inclined to spend that much money on.

The City Color ones are $6.99 each at regular price, and there is 3.65 grams of product in each pan. That is a lot of product. You’re definitely getting a lot for your money with this.

I do enjoy the packaging. The lettering rubs off after a bit, but I have found these easy to store in my acrylic organizers on my vanity. Because they’re flatter, they can be stacked by twos in the little containers that found from Ross.

I don’t know what I was expecting when I got these, but the first time I swatched them, my heart nearly stopped. These are so buttery. Like to the point where I feel as if I poke my finger too hard in the pan the product would crumble. I don’t believe it would, but I don’t know what other way to describe how soft the texture is.

These do not crumble though. That is actually a pet peeve of mine with shimmery shadows. I don’t enjoy the little crumbles that some can leave behind, and these don’t do that. In my opinion, the closest comparison makeup wise I can make regarding texture would be to the Makeup Geek shadows.

Very smooth. Super pigmented. Not a pain in the ass to work with.

Swatches from top to bottom: Cheers to Life, Marsala, New Year New Me, Bubble Bath, Homecoming Queen

I have seen Marsala compared to KVD’s Raw Power, and they are almost spot on dupes. Marsala and Cheers to Life are probably my current favorites because they are amazing Fall shades, but New Year New Me is gorgeous as well, and doubles as an awesome highlight! It’s a very pale white-gold type of shade, making it a highlight that multiple skin tones can use, including fair skin tones like myself.

I like to put a few shades over top of my tattoo because it truly shows how pigmented products are, and these shadows are no exception. These were all swatched in natural light and with no primer underneath.

There are so many more affordable brands that are stepping up their game and bringing out some high quality products. It’s really exciting to me! I love splurging, but I also love saving a bit of money when I can, which is why I follow so many pages that find dupes. Ha!

I do have a coupon code that will save you 10% on top of every sale City Color has, and you get free shipping at $25. My code is lunafayebeauty 🙂

Though I am now affiliated with this brand, my opinions are still very honest. I’ve been a huge fan of City Color for a long time now, so naturally I was excited to have my own coupon code to share with you all in case you’ve been wanting to try a few things.

If you have these shadows, what are your thoughts on them? What are some of your favorite shades? Comment and tell me all about it!

As always, thanks for reading, and I hope you’re all having wonderful days.

Face of the Day: Cool Toned Fall Look

colourpop kapow

Hey lovelies,

I know I have been a bit MIA lately, but I promise nothing is wrong. I’ve just been kind of taking small breaks here and there. I’ve been thinking of changing my blog up a bit and doing more lifestyle than beauty posts (I miss doing lifestyle posts) and doing most of my reviews on Youtube. Feel free to leave input, because even though my blog is my creative space, I do value the opinions of you all since I consider you all my friends.

Today’s look is a cool toned Fall look, and was supposed to be a tutorial for my Youtube channel. While I was editing iMovie crashed on me, and somehow while it was crashing it corrupted the files on my memory card. To say the least, I am frustrated and upset about it. I don’t feel I will be able to film this again with Holiday things coming up, so I’m going to try and explain this look to the best of my abilities since it was requested.

If this look is familiar to you, I’ve done it before for an Instagram look. It was actually way more popular than I thought it was going to be.

colourpop kapow

Base: Primer is the Laura Mercier hydrating primer and the elf under eye primer.

Foundation: Tarte Iluminating serum mixed with the Loreal Infallible demi matte foundation. This foundation is super full coverage, and I like to mix it with the serum to take it down a notch so it looks better and less cakey on my dry skin. I always use my real techniques sponge for this as well, as it gives it more of an airbrushed look and takes off any excess product.

Concealer: Nyx HD concealers in Lavender and Porcelain. I do this to brighten my undereyes, but I do not do the big huge triangle thing many do. I just focus it where my dark circles are and use the real techniques sponge again to pick up any excess product.

Powders: I set my face with my usual powder, the Laura Geller balance and brightening powder in porcelain. My under eyes are set with the physians formula correcting powder in translucent.

Contour: I used the Wet n Wild contour duo in Dulce De Leche to lay down my contour and warm up my face just a tiny bit, and then used the Nyx HD blush in taupe to further define my cheekbones using the Sonia Kashuk fan brush. I also used this to contour my nose. I always blend my contour out using the City Color Cosmetics duo ended brush now, it’s wonderful.

Blush: Milani’s “Romantic Rose” blush which is a stunning cool toned mauve shade for fall, and is permanent to their rose blush collection. I used a Sedona Lace 813 brush for this.

Highlight: The new Ofra Cosmetics and Dupe That collab highlight in “You Glow Girl.” Seriously, you need this highlight. It’s a very cool toned shimmery pink shade that looks almost blue in some lights. It’s so gorgeous, and I feel like a Winter Goddess in it. I applied my highlight with my real techniques setting brush, which is awesome for highlighting.

IMG_3273 colourpop central perk

Brows: My usual combination of the Nyx tame and frame in espresso set with their brow mascara in “black.”

Eye primer: The Hard Candy eye primer. I love this, and it’s only $5 at the drugstore.

Palette of choice: Morphe 35O.

I know what you’re thinking, everyone loves this palette for the warm tones. On the left hand side of the palette, there are some incredible cool toned shades that I feel are not hyped up enough.

I used:

morphe 35O tutorial

Those shades with the coffee mugs? Those are the ones I used 🙂

I placed that cool transition shade in the crease towards my brows using the elf cosmetics concealer brush, which is an awesome crease brush for transition shades.

I then placed the lighter taupe shade in the third row a little beneath it, and the darker taupe shade in the crease as well using my Luxie fluffy brush. I love putting 3 shades in the crease, I think it gives a really awesome effect.

I placed the light kinda shimmery white shade up top on my lid, and then placed the darkest taupe shade on the outside.

Now, for the burgundy color I had to use Colourpop’s Central Perk shadow. I like to use the Urban Decay brush from the Naked 3 palette for this, because it’s flat and very dense and stiff. I then blended the shape out using my Crown fluffy blending brush, which is my absolute favorite blending brush in my collection.

colourpop kapow

In my water line and lower lash line I placed Nyx Cosmetic’s “Rust” jumbo eye pencil, which is a really pretty reddish color and blended Central perk with it.

Liner is the NYC liduid liner and lashes are the Eylure and Vegas Nay Grand Glamor lashes, which is fluffy and glorious.

Inner corner highlight is my favorite one, Urban Decay’s “Polyster Bride” and mascara is the Maybelline Lash Sensational.

Lipstick is Nyx’s 1000 years lip liner topped with Colourpop’s ultra matte lippie in Kapow. This is limited edition, but it’s so beautiful and it’s an almost spot on dupe for Coloured Raine’s Soul lipstick.

I set everything using the Urban Decay all night setting spray.

That’s it for the details behind this look! I hope I was able to give enough details, but if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask! I love chatting with you all.

I really hope you all enjoyed this look, and I am so sorry once again that I was not able to get the video up on my Youtube channel. Hopefully, the iMovie thing was a fluke thing and won’t happen again.

I hope you’re all having wonderful days, and please find me on social media if you want to!

Nancy Downs Inspired Makeup!

the craft makeup tutorial

It’s me again! I told you all I love the week of Halloween! I know I normally don’t share but 1-2 looks in one week, but this week is special, and the movie this is inpspired by is special to me. If you grew up in the 90’s, there’s a huge chance you’ve seen The Craft. To this day, it’s one of my favorite movies to watch this time of the year. It’s very nostalgic to me because my dad would always watch it with me. My dad is one of those cool cats that if you catch him alone he will watch a movie with you start to finish without saying much. It’s the best.

Anyway, Nancy Downs is my favorite, and probably most iconic character from this movie. I wanted to put together a simple, yet recognizable look with her in mind. You could also change a few things up and go to a party as a true 90’s teenager. That’s an idea, right?

Now, I know my hair isn’t short or anything, but wigs confuse and frustrate me so I just went with a really teased look using my natural texture, which is already very curly.

IMG_3083 nancy downs makeup

Primer + Foundation: Primer used was the Nivea Men’s post shaving balm. Foundation is Estee Lauder’s Double Wear in Cool Bone mixed with Manic Pani’c white foundation. From what I’ve seen, many looks in the 90’s were matte, but my skin is too dry for matte foundations so the Double Wear is a good in between. It’s full coverage, but has a satin and not too dewy finish.

Powder: BH Cosmetics Studio Pro powder in the lightest shade. I find this powder to give my skin a matte finish without caking on.

Concealer: LA Girl Pro Conceal in Porcelain set with Ben Nye powder in Cameo

Contour: Wet n Wild’s Dulce De Leche down my cheekbones, sides of my temples, and down my nose. I then used Nyx’s HD blush in Taupe to further define the very back of my cheekbones.

Blush: A mauve one that came in a set by City Color Cosmetics. The shade “blackberry” is very similar.

Highlight: Okay, highlighting wasn’t really a thing then, but I have to have a little or else I feel my face looks flat. I used a little bit of the nude glow one by Physicians Formula.

kat von d innerstellar palette

Brows: We all know what 90’s brows look like. Thin and dark. Lucky for me, my brows are already relatively small so I just filled them in with Nyx’s brow gel in black, and I did apply this liberally. I set it with their brow mascara in black.

Eyes: I primed my eyes and used the Kat Von D Innerstellar palette today. I feel the key with this look is to be messy, and be dark. I used killing moon as my transition shade and went into astrological to make my eyes appear a bit more deep set.

On my lid I placed Lunacy and in the outer corner I blended darkstar and put that halfway into the crease. I was not precise with this at all. You want this to look messy and smokey.

Liner is Nyx’s black tres jolie liner smudged with night crawler and brow bone and innter corner highlight is lycan. I added lashes to mine, but using just mascara would probably be ideal.

For my lower lash line I put a heavy amount of liner in my water line. Seriously, go ham with it. I then smoked that out with astrological and put on mascara. My eyes are way bigger than Nancy’s, but I tried my best to create the illusion that they are smaller. Using liner all around the eye and using dark colors does achieve that for anyone.

necromancy cosmetica oh no nancy

Lips: I lined my lips with Colourpop’s “Creature” lippie pencil and topped that with Necromancy Cosmetica’s lipstick in “Oh No, Nancy.” This shade is a dark brown and I really wanted to use it just because of the name, so that’s why I used it over top a deep red liner. I love the way it turned out!

Nose ring is my own, and I just put a septum retainer in which is why I’m lacking a pretty septum piece today.

Spiked collar is actually a body harness I have turned around that I got off Etsy awhile back. You can add some necklaces if you want, I know Nancy wears quite a few throughout the movie.

My shirt is just a white button up I found in my closet. Another option would be a tee shirt and leather jacket, and of course a skirt with boots.

I know this look isn’t 100% accurate, but I wanted an inspired yet recognizable look. I tend to add my own little spins to looks, even on Halloween.

I hope you all enjoyed this quick little last minute Halloween idea! It’s very easy to put together, and chances are you already have most of the pieces in your wardrobe/makeup collection!

As always, thanks for reading, and I hope you’re all having wonderful weeks!

Face of the Day: Wednesday Addams (DIY Costume)

wednesday addams costume

Hey beauties,

It’s the Thursday before Halloween! Anyone else excited to do whatever you do on Halloween? I’ll be out taking my kids trick or treating, and then we’ll probably end the night watching Tim Burton films and eating way too much candy.

I did want to share a look today in case anyone needs some true last minute inspiration. I’ve been told I look like Wednesday Addams (specifically Christina Ricci) since I was really young, so why not see if that’s actually true? This look was really fun, cute, and simple to put together. Wednesday Addams is one of those characters where you can put on just about anything and braid your hair, and chances are many people will know what you were going for. Or at least I hope.

IMG_3048 IMG_3038

Foundation: Estee Lauder Double wear in cool bone mixed with Manic Panic’s white dream tone foundation. Primer used was the Laura Mercier hydrating primer.

Powder: BH Cosmetics Studio Pro setting powder for a matte finish.

Concealer: None. The dark circles I’m sporting today are actually mine. If you don’t have dark circles you can always create them using gray shadows. Truth is, I’m usually self conscious of my dark circles because I was told so often I looked “sick” but lately I’ve been trying to embrace them more. They’re a part of me.

Contour: Lunatick Cosmetic Labs cool contour kit. I did contour my jaw and my nose a bit more just so I could have a bit more of an upturned look. Fortunately, my nose shape is similar to Christina Ricci’s, which is probably why people thought I looked like her.

Blush: I didn’t want to have no color to my face, so I used the BH Cosmetic’s Lilac blush. It’s a really subtle cool toned purple blush.

Highlight: Colourpop’s “Hippo.” I made sure to highlight the very tip of my nose a bit extra just to add to the illusion that my nose is a bit more upturned than normal.

Brows: Anastasia Beverley Hills dirpbrow pomade in “ebony” set with Nyx’s brow mascara in black.

IMG_3049

Eyes: This is such a simple eye look, and yet very bold and dramatic. I used Nyx’s “SOS” as my transition shade. I then blended Colourpop’s “Girl Crush” in the crease and put “Mixed Tape” on the lid. You could go with white, but I wanted a full gray smokey eye.

The outer corner is “Straight Trippin” by colourpop. I almost went with black, but I’m glad I went with this deep purple shade instead. It really brought out the “I haven’t slept” look I was going for with my dark circles.

I winged my liner, but this look could easily be done with just a smudged lash line with mascara as well for a more grungy look. Lashes are some demi wispies I found off Ebay.

On the lower lash line I used Straight Trippin and blended that out with SOS . I’m really dramatic with my lower lash line, and I wanted the eyes to be super dark and very striking. Inner corner highlight is “polyster bride” by Urban Decay.

Lips: La Girl’s new matte lipstick in “Raven.” This applied really well and is pretty matte. I have 7 of these in all that I will be doing a review on once I catch up on everything else I need to do reviews on. Lawlz.

Hair: This is my hair simply braided. You can use a wig if you need to though. I put little skeleton hand clips from Hot Topic on either side. I imagine a grown up Wednesday would be into skeletons and anatomy. Just a hunch. Or maybe that’s just me…

Collar: This floral peter pan collar is from Salem Couture. Many places sell shirts with peter pan collars, but I wanted to use what I have in my wardrobe, and I own a few of their collars. They’re really cute and can be used with any shirt!

Dress: This was actually a $7 Marshall’s find over the summer. It’s just a cute little black velvet skater dress. I threw a cardigan over it to complete the look! Another outfit idea would be a pair of black jeans, flowy black top and chunky boots, or a long flowy black dress. I have no idea why I imagine Wednesday growing up to be more punk than goth?

Full Moon Earrings: Bella Morta Jewelry

That is it for my quick and simple Wednesday Addams look! I hope you all enjoyed this. What are your costume ideas?

As always, thanks for reading, and I hope you’re all having lovely days!

Some Spook-tacular Shops to Check Out

IMG_2708

The week before Halloween is seriously one of my favorite weeks of the year. Other than the week my kids were born, I live for this week. I love seeing everyone put together costumes and makeup looks. However, I am a bit creepy all year. Many things about Halloween I gracefully add to my wardrobe and life all year. So, while we’re in the spirit, I wanted to share some of my personal favorite shops that sell cute and spooky things all year.

Dead Spider Hands: This shop is where that cute mini zine and monster doily came from. The artist that owns this shop’s name is Allie Burke, and she is so incredibly creative. I have a few of her prints in my house, and I always get compliments on how strikingly creepy, yet classy they look on my bookshelf. Her shop is under maintence right now and won’t be up for a few more weeks, but her prints and stickers are so damn adorable.

Shop Deer Heart: This shop is a newer discovery, and I love it so much already! This shop sells cute and creepy (and non creepy) pins and other nifty things. That’s actually where the eyeball ring pictured above came from.

Worship 13: I know I talk about this shop often, but I truly do love her jewelry and I’ve expereniced nothing but amazing things from her shop. I wear her necklaces very often in my Instagram photos, and these are items she makes all year! I love that I can stay spooky cute all year, and her items are budget friendly.

Bella Morta Jewelry: This is another shop I talk about often and mention in my posts, but I do want to include her shop because she will be closing it down soon for personal reasons. I truly love her pieces and I am sad to see her shop go, so I want to share it with you all in case anyone has been wanting anything from my photos. This could be your last chance to snag a few things.

Fiend Boutique: This is another newer shop to me, and it should be obvious that I’m a sucker for any shop that sells cute horror themed necklaces and earrings. I’m a huge Misfits fan so the name just speaks to me on another level, but their items are incredible as well and very affordable. Go look at the Jack-O-Lantern earrings right now. Trust me on this one.

Pretty Zombie Cosmetics: Okay, would it be a post by me if I didn’t include a few makeup shops? I love Pretty Zombie’s lipsticks, and I have talked about them so often before. Their packaging is so adorable though and it has pretty zombie pin up girls on them. Vanity worthy. Need I say more?

My Pretty Zombie Cosmetics: To clarify, this brand is different from Pretty Zombie. This shop sells eyeshadows, and they are incredible! Remember my Halloween tutorial where I used an eyeshadow called “Murder?” That came from this shop. She sells a lot of really awesome quality shadows for $5 each that have the most badass names.

Notoriously Morbid Cosmetics: This shop is probably the newest to me out of all of these, and I’m already head over heels in makeup love. Sharie from Secondhand Sweetness is always talking about them, so I decided to give their mystic matte lipsticks a try, and I was instantly hooked. Their products are vegan and cruelty free, and many are themed. I missed out on the Vincent Price collection, but I did snag the Down the Spiral (also a huge Nine Inch Nails fan, surprise) collection that I will be doing an unboxing for as soon as it arrives. I have high hopes for this brand!

Salem Couture: This shop sells mostly Peter Pan style collars that can be worn with any shirt you have! I love this concept, and I own a few myself that I have used in previous posts. They sell many designs, some spooky and some plain. The mermaid one is one of my personal favorites, and I also own the floral one. They have an instagram page as well and they have discount codes pretty frequently!

That’s it for today’s short little link fest. I know this is not my usual type of post, but I do use a lot of accessories for my looks and tutorials, and I like to share the love. Indie brands and independent artists are always going to have a place in my heart, and I want so many of them to succeed. There’s a lot of talented artists in this post, so make sure to click the links and shop around in your spare time!

As always, thanks for reading, and I hope you’re all having wonderful days!

Shop My Stash: Elf Mineral Primers

elf mineral primers

Hey lovelies,

I wanted to do another Shop My Stash post because I just rotated out all of my primers over the weekend, and discovered that I have four different ones from the Elf mineral line chilling out (literally, my house is freezing) in my stash.

If you have skin like mine, anything hydrating is super crucial, especially when shopping for primers. Primers can also be tricky for me because my skin is a little sensitive, and many break my skin out. However, I have never experienced that with any of the Elf mineral primers.

These are $6 each, and they come in pretty durable bottles with a pump. I love that these primers have pumps, it just feels way more sanitary to me, honestly. There are quite a few primers in this line, so I think everyone can find something they would enjoy. Elf is actually sold in a few drugstores now including Target, Walmart, and most recently CVS!

From left to right:

Green Correcting Mineral Primer- I have gone through about 3 bottles of just this primer since I discovered these. I love this primer, and I honestly need to pink it back up and use it again. Green primers correct red tones in the face, and that is something that I need given my Irish genes.

Hydrating Mineral Primer- This is a newer addition to the mineral primer line, and I have enjoyed it so far! It doesn’t feel like a lotion primer like the Laura Mercier one that I use, but it does leave my skin feeling hydrated and very smooth. I tend to mix half a pump of this with the green correcting primer somedays if my skin is looking a little irritated.

Radiating Primer- This is another newer addition, and I actually mentioned it in my Top Elf Favorites video awhile back. It has a really nice champagne tint to it, so it makes me look like I’m glowing from the inside out! Even in Fall, I typically wear an illuminating primer with full coverage foundations. My skin type just won’t allow for matte makeup unless I’m going for that caked on look…which I don’t want to go for that look any time soon.

Poreless Mineral Primer- This is the very first one I ever tried, and this is also my second bottle of this. I normally can’t wear poreless primers because they have so much silicone that it breaks me out, but this one never has. I usually put this on my nose and around it because that’s the only places where my pores are a bit larger, but I highly recommend this primer!

So, those are the four that I own and that I will be adding back into my makeup rotation this Fall. For $6 each, I think these are incredible primers. I love the bottles they come in, and I feel they look very cute sitting on vanities. The bottles look heavy, but they feel light, and I have never personally had any trouble from the pumps or felt that the packaging is flawed.

If you have any of these, what do you think about them? Let me know! I really hope you all enjoyed this short and sweet little Shop My Stash post! If you have anything that you would want to see me talk about or revisit, please let me know! I hope you’re all having wonderful days!

Face of the Day: Morphe 35O Palette

Morphe 35O palette

Hey lovelies,

It’s Thursday, and I do have a Face of the Day post for you all! I have been wanting to share several looks using the Morphe 35O palette for awhile now, so that’s what I’m doing today! Yes, I fought the presale madness to get this palette. I actually ordered this within the first 15 mins and didn’t get a shipping code until a few weeks later. So, if you still haven’t received yours, be patient. I’ve seen some pretty rude comments on the Morphe page lately. They were clear about when they would be shipping presale orders, so I was actually surprised when I received mine randomly instead of getting it a few weeks ago, like I had planned.

I will say this palette is worth the wait though, and I will be posting swatches of it very very soon!

Today’s look is very warm, and involves orange shades on fair skin. Gasp! I know, a year ago I wouldn’t have dared put orange on my eyes, but the past few months have opened my makeup heart a bit, and I have been wanting to play with more warm tones. Honestly, if there’s a shade that you want to wear, just go for it. Confidence is everything, and sometimes a bold (or warm, in my case) change in style is what you need to shake things up.

IMG_2949 morphe 35O

Primer: Nivea Men’s Post Shaving Balm

Foundation: Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum mixed with Manic Panic’s dream tone. Yes, I still use dewy foundations in Fall. Even though this foundation is a bit too yellow for me, I’m determined to use it and another foundation up before I can justify getting the new Too Faced Born This Way foundation.

Concealer: Nars Creamy Radiant Concealer in Chantilly

Powders: Laura Geller Balance and Brightening Powder in Porcelain and Elf HD undereye setting powder.

Bronzer: Tarte’s Park Ave. Princess Bronzer. I really love this bronzer and the warmth it brings to my face.

Contour: Nyx HD blush in “taupe.”

Blush: Milani’s “Awakening Rose” blush. Ah, I haven’t worn this in like…two weeks? I love this blush, we all know that.

Highlight: Nyx’s “Ritualistic” illuminator. I brought this back out after seeing it compared to Nar’s “Albatross” highlight. This is a gorgeous white gold highlight that flatters multiple skin tones, including fair skin tones.

IMG_2948 morphe 35O

Brows: Nyx tame and frame brow in “espresso” set with their brow mascara in black.

Primer: Hard Candy eye primer

Palette of choice: Morphe 35O palette. I wish I could give names, but I just did my usual style of eye makeup to test this bad boy out. I used a warm transition shade, one of the bright oranges in this palette after that, and then mixed that with a orange-y brown lower in the crease. I used a pink shimmer shade on the lid and a dark brown smoked out on the outter v of the eye.

Liner & Lashes: Liner is actually “War of Five Armies” by Shiro Cosmetics. I use this as liner often, because it’s a gorgeous reddish brown shade. I mixed the loose shadow with Medusa Makeup’s liner medium and flicked it out. Lashes are the Ardell Double Wispies. Mascara used on top and bottom lashes was Maybelline Lash Sensational lashes.

Lower Lash line: I put War of Five Armies in my water line while it was still wet and took the orange and an orange-y brown shade and smoked that out into an oblivion. I mean, we should be used to this by now from me. It’s just what I like.

black moon cosmetics libra

Lipstick: Black Moon Cosmetics “Libra” lined with Nyx’s “Nude Truffle.” I promise I have a review on these coming soon, I just really wanted to test them out and I am a bit behind on posts because I got sick and I’ve been wanting to spend more time playing outside with my kids. I do love this shade though, it’s the perfect everyday Fall nude for my skin tone!

Necklace is from Worship 13 🙂 it’s the Vintage witch cat pendant!

That’s it for today’s look! I hope you all enjoyed this warm look, and next week I will be showing a few simple last minute costumes to put together for Halloween. Because as a mom I know the Halloween struggle of getting everyone else’s costumes perfect and then the day of Halloween thinking, “Okay, but what about me?” Ha!

As always, thanks for reading, and I hope you’re all having wonderful days!

october lip monthly

Hey lovelies,

I know I’m doing two unbaggings in a row, but next week is the week of Halloween so I want to save that week for some cute makeup looks and more Fall tutorials! So, today I want to share with you all what I received in my Lip Monthly bag.

Lip Monthly is a monthly beauty subscription that now costs $12.95 per month. You get 4 full sized products, 3 being lip products and there’s always a “makeup mix up” that isn’t a lip product. On average, their bags are high value and most I’ve gotten have been worth $40+. There is almost always a code to get your first bag for $5 floating around as well on Instagram!

Even better, starting in November subscribers will be able to choose the shades they get in their bag, and they’re starting a rewards program! I’m stoked about this new addition to their service. I’m a bit picky when it comes to the shades I wear, and being able to choose will be awesome. Give me all the reds.
Okay, let’s get on to the unbagging:

1. Pencil Me in Eyeliner in One Cent This is a full sized product that retails at $6.99. I’ve received an eyeliner from this brand before, but I wasn’t a fan of the color. However, I really love this color. I like this formula and it doesn’t tug on my eyes at all, and this shade is right up my alley! It’s a shimmery copper shade which is very flattering for green eyes, so I can’t wait to include this in a few fall looks!

2. Lord & Berry Lip Crayon in Sensual This crayon retails at $16, which is a lot for this tiny lip crayon. However, this color, like it’s name, is pretty sensual. It’s a really pretty muted red shade, so if you’re someone that doesn’t like bright reds but enjoys the look of a sultry muted red for Fall, this is a good one! I do have another one from this brand, and now that I have two I might do an official review, what do you all think?

3. Hikari Crayon in Mandarin This chubby lip crayon retails at $14, but I don’t quite understand this shade being in the October bag. It’s orange-y but more in a Summer sense and not in a Fall sense. I don’t really see myself pulling this out until Spring, but it is a lovely shade and it swatched very smoothly, which means it will probably be very hydrating.

4. J.Cat Lipstick in Auburn This is the lowest value item at $2.99, but probably the product I love the most in this bag. Weird, right? I’ve been wanting to try more J.Cat lipsticks ever since the concealer shade Lip Monthly sent everyone (no fiascos like that since then, thankfully) because these seem promising. I adore this shade. It’s so beautiful, and I nearly gasped when I swatched it. Okay, I do that often because I have a serious lipstick addiction and when something swatches smoothly and is a gorgeous shade, my heart flutters. Don’t judge me.

Well, that’s everything I got in my Lip Monthly bag! If you’re curious about past bags, I do have quite a few reviews of their brand that include things about their customer service on my blog as well, just use the search bar on the right hand side of my page and search “Lip Monthly.” I’ve gotten some pretty awesome things in this bag, and some duds. That’s the risk I take with loving beauty subscriptions so much though. This month’s bag retails at $39.98, which is pretty high value, but not as high as usual.

I am really happy overall with this bag. Let me know if there’s anything you all would love to see a lip swatch or short mini review of!

As always, thanks for reading, and I hope you’re all having wonderful days!

October Ipsy: Alter Ego

october ipsy

Hey beauties!

It’s time for an unbagging! Today, I will be going over what I received in my October Ipsy bag. If you’re unfamiliar with Ipsy, they’re a monthly beauty subscription that sends 4-5 deluxe sample sized products or full sized products for $10 per month. I’ve been subscribed to them personally for almost three years now!

I believe the theme this month was “Alter Egos” since it’s October, and the bag is black on one side and gold on the other. I think it’s a cute theme. I suppose I have an alter ego. When I was younger I had a small group of friends that called me Vanessa, and Vanessa was a super outgoing girl and wasn’t as anxious as I am in real life. Is that how alter egos work? We’re rolling with it.

Anyway, remember when I said that last month my bag was stolen out of my mailbox? Well, this month I had an item missing. Totally not Ipsy’s fault, it’s just been an unlucky couple of months for me in terms of getting makeup in the mail unharmed. I’m still going to do this unbagging though and just mention the thing I’m missing, since they are being kind enough once again and sending me the item I’m missing.

1. Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion: This is the item I’m missing. So, I’m not heartbroken per say, but I am looking forward to trying this. I’ve loved everything I’ve gotten from Dr. Brandt, and they are an expensive brand, so I do enjoy samples I get from them. I’m still using the pore reducing primer I got awhile back.

 2. Dose Color Pill Nail Polish in Stormy Personally, I love getting nail polishes in my beauty subscriptions! I love that this polish is shaped like a pill, and the color is very unique to my collection! It’s a dark grayish-purple shade that is right up my alley and will definitely get used!

3. Emite Makeup Tweezer Okay, not gonna lie, I was not happy about getting tweezers in my bag this month. I’m one of those people that doesn’t feel certain brands of tweezers make any difference, and I already have about 10 lying around my house in different places. However, when I got this set it does feel different than my others. I have used it a few times, and it works really well for getting those tiny stubborn little hairs out near your eyebrows! Not a total loss in the end.

4. Delectable Coconut Hand Cream I love getting hand creams in my bags because it saves me from having to buy them. I always have a hand cream in my purse, and another in my car. I have really dry skin and my hands get eczema patches in the fall and winter, and on top of that I am constantly washing dishes. My hands can feel super dry and almost cracked some days, so having hand creams everywhere is fine by me. I love the scent of this one, and it was way bigger in size than I thought! It will last me a long while.

5. The Balm’s Meet Matt(e) Hughes Liquid Lipstick in Committed Okay, I was almsot squealed when I saw this in my bag. I wanted it sooo bad! I’ve been wanting to try these liquid lipsticks, but I can’t justify getting another liquid lipstick right now. So, shout out to Ipsy for obviously reading my mind.I really love this shade as well. It’s a dark pinky-nude. I would swatch it, but there’s so little in the tube because it’s just a sample that I don’t want to waste. However, I will probably be doing a short review on it in the next couple of weeks for anyone interested!

That’s everything I got in my October Ipsy bag! What did you all get? Were you happy with your bag? Better yet, do you have an alter ego?

I’m really happy with my bag this month even if one item was missing, and I really love Ipsy’s review system which is why I believe my bags have been better catered to my wants over the past few months. Always review your bag at the end of the month, I promise it makes a difference.

As always, thanks for reading, and I hope you’re all having wonderful days!
