The Lipstick Tag

I saw this tag, and it was just calling my name. Lipstick is my favorite makeup related thing to talk about!
As usual, I tag anyone and everyone that wants to participate. Join the dark side and talk about lipstick with me 😀

It’s the first day of March! Anyone else ready for the snow to melt and for Spring to arrive? I actually like Spring minus the pollen. Like early Spring…cool mornings and warm afternoons. I just wish my allergies weren’t so terrible. Thinking about flowers makes me sneeze. Anyway, here are my answers for this tag! I had fun with this one 🙂

How many lipsticks do you own?
Okay, I’m not going to count but I do know I probably own 150 or more lipsticks. I know that seems obscene, but I do collect them and it’s been over a time span of a few years. My love for lipstick is legit.

What was the first lipstick you owned?
Not sure, but the first one that I recall wearing often was Revlon’s “Love that Red.”

What is your favourite lipstick brand?
I don’t think I have an absolute favorite, but my two favorites right now are Kat Von D and LaSplash. Those seem to be the ones that I reach for the most. I do have some Jeffree Star lipsticks coming to me though, so those may become my new favorites.

What is your most worn lipstick?
Probably “Lumiere” by Colourpop and “Lolita” by Kat Von D. This is always changing though.

What is your favourite finish?
Matte, definetely. I think I have said that several times on my blog. Matte lipsticks last longer and I don’t have to worry about them getting on my teeth and sliding everywhere.

What is the last lip product you bought?
I bought the bundle of 3 colors during the Jeffree Star restock. Yes, I was one of the lucky ones that snagged one since they sold out in record time. It’s okay to be jealous of me just this one time…because I’m rarely that lucky during releases.

How many lip products do you currently have in your handbag? (including balms and glosses)
Uh…7. 3 lipsticks, 2 glosses, and 2 balms. I should probably clean my purse out…

IMG_4584

How do you store your lipsticks?
I have an acrylic lipstick holder on my vanity, a makeup bag with ones that I don’t wear often, and the rest are displayed on shelves above my vanity. You know how Carrie Bradshaw is about her shoes and how she’s proud of them and displays them? That’s how I am with lipstick.

IMG_4586

Which lipstick do you use to rock a red lip?
I have a few favorite reds right now:
“Matador” by Magnolia Makeup
“Zombettie” by Pretty Zombie Cosmetics
‘Matte Confident” by Milani

What lip product are you currently lusting over?
Any and all liquid lipsticks. Also, Kat Von D is about to release a new limited edition lipstick line and I really hope she picks to put them in white studded tubes. My heart will explode and so will my bank account, but I will be happy.

Review and Swatches: Nyx Intense Butter Gloss and High Voltage Lipstick

IMG_4337

Before I start this post, I just wanted to say that I had typed out most of this post once before…and wordpress decided to magically eat it and it disappeared into the blogger’s graveyard that’s laced with our tears. I was so livid, and decided to step away for a day and just recharge a bit and type this back out once I had calmed down.

Now I have calmed down 😀

I picked up 4 of the new intense butter glosses and 2 of the high voltage lipsticks at Ulta a few weeks back. My local Ulta had just sat them out and I still had my 20% coupon to use, so that’s what I used it on. They were also BOGO 50%, so it made for a great deal! Anyone else do this thing where you don’t even care to drop money on high end products, but when it comes to drugstore products you are cheap as shit? Because I do that.

Anyway, the original Nyx butter glosses are some of the only glosses I own, and they are incredible. I usually have one (creme brulee) in my purse at all times for emergencies, and I adore the formula. And the smell…it’s like they put the essence of a cupcake inside of every tube. The butter glosses are pigmented, but I guess Nyx wanted to take it up a notch and intensify it (har har har).

First, I noticed the packaging is about the same. The tubes are the same color as what’s inside of them, which is nice. I don’t have to look at the bottom of the tube to figure out which color it is. Second, they still smell like cupcakes. #hellyes

Third, these are freakin’ amazing. I am in love with the new intense butter glosses. They go on so smooth and are so opaque. They feel very nice on the lips, and wear very well throughout the span of a few hours. Now, because these are glossy glosses they do not have the most intense staying power, but I have found that they wear off nicely. One of the things that I usually hate about glosses is that they wear so badly after a few hours. I put it on and next thing I know I have gloss on my teeth and somehow it’s on my face because my hair gets caught in it…it’s just not a good time. I don’t have too many issues of that nature with the original butter glosses or the intense ones.

They do feel slightly sticky (typical) but nothing that gives me the heebie jeebies and makes me want to remove it immediately.

Chocolate Crepe- A very true brown gloss. I love this color so much, and it seems that many others do as well because it sold out online pretty quickly when these released, and I snagged the last one at my Ulta.

IMG_4322

Toasted Marshmallow- a very dark plum color with a bit of a brown undertone. Probably my favorite color in the entire line. I have a photo of me wearing it on my “favorites friday” post, and I meant it when I said I am going to get a back up. My love for this color is legit.

IMG_4243
(another view of toasted marshmallow)

IMG_4323

Spice Cake- this was a purchase a bit out of my usual comfort zone. This is a very dark raspberry color, and I have to say I love it. I think this would be a great color for the transition between winter and spring for those into that kind of thing, but this is a color I can see myself rocking all year.

IMG_4324

Apple Crisp- a shiny true red. Another beautiful shade in this line. I love red lip products, which should be apparent by now. I knew I had to have this color when I saw them being swatched online by several youtubers. If you love red colors, get this. It’s super pigmented and a great color to keep on you for touch ups, if needed.

Now, on to the two high voltage lipsticks I picked up. These remind me of the original round case lipsticks in the sense that they are creamy still, but I have noticed that the high voltage line is very pigmented. If you own a lot of the round case ones like I do, you may know what I’m saying when I say that sometimes the darker colors from that line can be a bit patchy and uneven while applying. The high voltage ones are not patchy at all, in my opinion, but they are smaller than the original round cases.

I’m also not as fond of the packaging…it seems a bit…cheap. However, I’m not too much of a packaging snob, it’s the product inside that matters the most to me.

IMG_4325

This color is “Burlesque” and it’s another true red (surprise!). I love the way this one applied and the color pay off. It reminds me a lot of Chaos, which is one of my all time favorite lipstick colors in the world.

IMG_4326

The last color I have to swatch is “Feline” which is a dark brown toned red. This is a very beautiful and vampy color if that’s what you’re into (which I am all about that vamp life). There seems to maybe be a bit of a purple tone to it, but it pulls a bit more on the brown side on me.

Anyway, that is all the ones I have for now, but there are definitely more from the high voltage line that I want to pick up. If you have also tried these out, let me know what you think! Link me to your blog posts if you have one, I would love to read them 🙂

Favorites Friday

It’s Friday, yayyy! Oh wait, I’m a mom. My parties now consist of being elbows deep in diapers. 😉

I really enjoy putting together my favorites for the week, and I hope you all enjoy them too!

IMG_4015

1. Lasplash decided to sell their holiday set separately make them permanent! YES! I didn’t order the holiday set because there was really only one color that I wanted since I don’t have anything like it, and that was Ghoulish. I received a free gift as well, and I can’t wait to use the brown eye pigment in “maple sugar” that was sent to me. I have a review of these liquid lipsticks here: https://kaylahutchison.wordpress.com/2015/01/01/first-impression-lasplash-liquid-lipsticks/

2. IMG_4017

No idea why I didn’t think to use my ipad for filming, but I’m also not great with technology. I bought a tripod adapter for my ipad, and I can’t wait to film with it and see if it is an improvement from the camera I was using! If anyone has vlogged with an ipad before, care to share any tips?

IMG_4016

3. I scored a really adorable new velvet dress for $7 at Marshall’s this week. It was the last one in my size. That means it was meant to be, right? I may have to cut the netting to make it breastfeeding friendly, but for $7 I don’t care to alter it a bit. I love these types of dresses on my figure. They cinch in the perfect spots and help my curves look nice rather than blah.

IMG_4018

4. Makeup favorites for the week: I have been trying to come up with a Valentine’s Day look, so I have been playing around with my Urban Decay 3 palette, and I forgot how much the colors in this palette make my green eyes pop. I feel this palette doesn’t get a lot of love from many people, but it is a pretty palette. I’ve been pairing it with colourpop’s “Lumiere” all week and I have swatches of all my lippie sticks here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHxsO5NYZ5I

It’s just a really pretty dark dusty rose/mauve color. It’s a perfect everyday color, or can be worn with a smokey eye as a neutral. A color I think everyone should own…and it’s $5.

I’ve also been loving the new Milani Matte shade in “Matte Confident” and you can read more about that here if you wish: https://kaylahutchison.wordpress.com/2015/01/27/review-and-lip-swatches-milani-matte-lipsticks/

5. Mom favorite moment of the week: Piper is crawling! Piper is 7 months old now, for those that don’t know, and she’s finally crawling around. I say “finally” but in reality I have to vacuum twice a day because she always finds weird things in the carpet to try and eat. She’s also babbling constantly and will mimic me when I say “mama” with “baba.” SO CLOSE. I just want one kid to say “mama” before “dada.” Let this be my moment!

Milani Rose Blushes

IMG_3708

Have you ever searched for a few things (makeup wise) so hard that when you finally find it…angels sing and your heart stops for a few seconds? Is it just me?

That could be embarrassing to admit, but I did that when I finally stumbled upon a display at Kmart with the new Milani Rose Blushes and there were blushes left! I will admit to maybe hovering over the display to block anyone else that might have also seen them and drooling for a few seconds.

Totally kidding.

This post is going to be less formal (okay, none of my posts are very formal) because I just want to admire the absolute beauty of these blushes.

IMG_3715

They are so divine. I’m so happy that Milani decided to bring these back and make them permanent. I missed out on the first time they were out, but even if I had gotten some I probably wouldn’t have used them. Now I feel like I can admire and use them since they’re here to stay. I paid $7.99 per blush for these, which is a typical price for Milani. There’s also a shit ton of blush in these it seems. There were 3 colors in the display, and I only picked up 2. I don’t think coral colors flatter my skin tone well, so I left the last Coral Cove on the display for someone else. I am so nice.

I will say that I searched high and low for these babies. From what I have seen online, the displays only have 2 per color stocked, so if you stumble upon them…buy them. If you’re going back and forth on it, just get them because it takes stores a long time to restock things at times, especially during new releases.

IMG_3709

This shade is “tea rose” and it’s a very matte pink shade. I think this is a shade that can be worn with both warm and cool toned looks, in my opinion. I’m no expert, so chances are I’m just saying that because I will wear it with any look no matter what.

IMG_3714

This is the one I wanted the most, and it’s “romantic rose.” It’s a matte mauve color. I love rosy mauve colors. I typically wear brown shadows and bright lips on a day to day basis, so I feel mauve blushes kind of compliment that in a way for me.

IMG_3717

These are the swatches with “tea rose” on the left and “romantic rose” on the right. They are incredibly pigmented. So, these blushes are not only gorgeous and affordable, they’re very pigmented and smooth to the touch.

Perfect product. Perfect luck. I am so happy with this find! I hope you all enjoyed this shorter review! It’s snowing a bit here in Tennessee, so I hope everyone is staying warm!

Review and Swatches: Elf Prism Palette in “Naked”

IMG_2832

If you’ve been following me for a bit you probably already know that I am a pretty huge elf (eyes lips face) cosmetics fan. It’s a very affordable, yet high quality brand. However, sometimes while on their site there are SO MANY THINGS that it’s hard to pick and choose what to pick and not panic slightly on the inside (probably just me) about whether or not your choices were awesome and won’t end up in your makeup graveyard. That’s the beauty of following multiple other bloggers here on youtube, though. I get to see swatches and reviews and sometimes discover things that I might have overlooked before.

That happened last week while watching a Kathleenlights (youtube blogger) video and she mentioned this palette from elf’s sight that I had somehow overlooked every time I have ever shopped on their website. It was the prism palette in “Naked” and from what I could see from the swatches on camera, I needed this palette. I typically do not go for shimmery palettes that have no mattes, but I was willing to make an exception for this. Everyone else also needed this palette. It sold out pretty quickly on elf’s sight, so I looked to my trusted beauty ebay shops list and tried to find one. I ended up snagging one for $5 shipped, which is half the price elf charges on their site at regular price, more if you include shipping costs.

Another small elf palette I picked up was $3 from Target. I want to try a few holiday things from elf myself since they’re so cheap. When I shop for Christmas makeup for my mom and other beauty enthusiasts in my family I like to know if the quality is going to be great before I buy it, and I like to be able to buy quite a bit for less so that I can make cute gift bags for everyone without breaking the bank. So, today’s post is just an overall review with swatches of both.

IMG_2814

These are the swatches from the prism palette and they are so shimmery and so BEAUTIFUL. I was so impressed with the quality and pigmentation of every color in this little set. The packaging is small and sleek for easy storage. The color payoff is better than some of my higher end palettes. This is one of those times where I am so happy that youtube made me buy something. If not, I might not have ever known about this little gem. If you’re contemplating on getting this, just get it. Trust me, you won’t regret it. If you love neutrals and shimmers, this is the perfect palette for you.

IMG_2815

These are the swatches from the $3 elf eye palette that I found at my local Target. It’s also available on elf’s website though. Yes, I realize the swatches look a lot like the prism palette, and there are some similarities, but also some major differences. These were swatched on primer, and while the pigmentation is by no means bad, it’s still a bit powdery. The prism palette shadows are very smooth and buttery, and these are more of the typical elf formula. The most powdery color was the gold one, but it wasn’t too bad and still has a great payoff.

Overall, I would recommend both of these palettes. If you’re only seeking one or the other, my personal recommendation is the Naked one, but both are great quality given the affordable price. I woudld honestly pay double the price for the prism palette. When I say those shades are buttery and glide on, I mean it. I haven’t worked with shades that easy to apply and blend since I tried ColourPop pigments. Elf, you never cease to amaze me, and I mean that in the best way possible.
