January Ipsy 2017

Hey beauties,

Long time no talk! I know I have been MIA from here for a very long time, but I truly wanted to soak up every moment I could with sweet Lyrik while she was a newborn. She is the last daughter we will be having, so I decided to step away from Youtube and my blog to really focus on her and myself. However, things are calming down and she’s finally sleeping more on her own, so I have more time to come back to blogging. And what better way to come back than with an unbagging?

If you’re unfamiliar with Ipsy, it’s a monthly beauty subscription that costs $10 per month. I normally receive my bags mid month, and there are 4-5 full sized or deluxe sample sized products in each bag.

This month’s theme was Metropolis. The bag is supposed to resemble skyscrapers and such, which is cute, but not really up my alley at all. I will likely give the bag itself to one of my daughters to play with.

  1. Trust Fund Beauty lipgloss in Method to the Madness– this is a deluxe sample, but it still has a lot of product in it! Normally, glosses are not my thing…or nude lip shades. However, I’ve been into trying new shades lately and really trying to push myself out of my comfort zone. I can’t wait to try this product out, regardless.
  2. The Balm Bahama Mama Bronzer– this is a product that is constantly talked about in the beauty community. I see it raved about often on Instagram and Youtube. The Balm is one of my favorite brands! I just dislike these tiny face samples. There’s no easy way to get a brush on them for one, and two, they just get lost in all my things and I always reach for full sized products over them. I will give this a try though and see if it works on my fair skin. Most bronzers don’t work for me though.
  3. Ciate London top coat nail polish– I am constantly painting my nails, so I find this product to be one I will definitely get use out of, and it’s full sized!
  4. Pacifica blush in Wildrose– I LOVE Pacifica products. They’re one vegan brand I am always down to try, and this blush is so gorgeous. How did Ipsy know rose shaded blushes are my favorite? How sweet of them.
  5. Real Chemistry 3 min luminous peel– I have been really into peels and face masks lately. My hormones are still settling back 3 months post partum and my skin has been suffering the biggest blow from mother nature. I’m excited to try this, and can totally do a separate review on this for anyone interested since I do have sensitive skin.

Overall, I am happy with the products I received in my bag this month! I feel that by consistently reviewing my products every month I have finally started to get more products I will for sure use. I will say I’m making a more active effort to use up the teeny samples chilling out all over my house this year. It’s one of my beauty resolutions for 2017. If you’re interested in signing up for Ipsy yourself, I have a referral link.

If you’re also an Ipsy subscriber, feel free to tell me what you received in your bag lately or what your favorite thing from them lately has been! I’m always happy to chat with you all in the comments.

I know this post has been short and sweet, but I promise I’m back for real. I can’t wait to catch up with everyone! As always, thanks for stopping by and reading. Have a lovely day!

April Ipsy Unbagging 2016 “Dreamers”

april ipso

Hello beauties,

It’s been a minute since I’ve done an Ipsy unbagging on here, so that’s what I’m doing today!

This month’s theme is “The Dreamers.” I’m not entirely sure why, but I rarely don’t question their motives for themes.

If you’re unfamiliar with Ipsy, it’s a beauty subscription that arrives monthly to your mailbox for $10. On average, everyone gets 4-5 full sized or deluxe sample sized products. These can  be makeup, hair care, or skin care products. Usually, I get a little bit of everything each month! Personally, I enjoy receiving small samples of multiple products so I can try out over the course of a few months, and I’ve actually repurchased several full sized items after trying them thanks to Ipsy! I’ve been subscribed to them for over 2 years now.

Anyway, this month I think I scored some nice things! So, let’s get right on into what was in my cute little tie dye-esque bag this month:

  1. Tarte’s LipSurgence Creme in Wonder– I’ve actually never tried too many Tarte lip products before, but I love getting Tarte products in my bag! I have swatched this, and it’s very creamy and has a pretty red tone to it. I’m normally not one to wear more sheer and glossy lip products, but I think this one would be nice to have in my bag in the Summer time if I need something to put on quickly that’s not going to feel dry.
  2. Probelle nail polish in In or Out-Most of the time I dislike every shade ever sent to me in terms of nail polish, I’m picky, and I’m not very colorful and I usually get pinks and blues. However, I enjoy purples, and this is a very cute purple shade. I’ve tried this brand in the past when I was subscribed to Beauty Box 5, and it’s actually a decent nail polish.
  3. Nomad Cosmetics Eyeshadow in Desert Sands– I love receiving eyeshadow normally, but I don’t wear gold shadows very often. I’m so pale that I feel gold can quickly overwhelm my face. This shade is nice though and seems like a great quality shade. The little package is cute and even has a teeny tiny mirror. This might be a product I pass on to a friend, however. Nothing against the brand, it’s just not my type of shade.
  4. MorrocainOil Treatment– I love getting oil samples in my subscription bags! I have a mini stash of them, and I cherish them. Oils can be pretty pricey, but they do have multiple functions. I use them on my face, in my hair, and I even blend my liquid products out with them at times. If you have dry skin, oils are going to be your best friend. I have heard that using oil can help those with oily skin as well, but I have never had oily skin a day in my life so I can’t attest to that. This little precious oil sample is going in my stash though.
  5. Luxie Beauty Dreamcatcher Tapered Highlight Brush– I was so ecstatic to see this in my bag! I love Luxie brushes, and I have received several thanks to Ipsy now. I think the blue handle on this is so cute, and it’s so soft! I may post about it on Snapchat soon, so if you’re not following me there and want to, make sure to add me! Not gonna lie, I have a thing for highlighter brushes. I have about 5 now and I use all of them for different highlighters. Don’t judge me. I can feel you judging me.
  6. Too Faced Waterproof Better than Sex Mascara-This was a point perk I redeemed last month and I’m just now getting this month. This is a full sized product, and it’s brand new to Too Faced! I love the Better than Sex mascara, and with Summer coming up I wanted to try a waterproof mascara. I have wimpy natural lashes, and the original Better than Sex is the only one that gives me volume and length. I’m pretty excited to try this one, and more than likely I’ll be doing a video on it!

That’s everything I got this month! Overall, I’m really happy with most of the products I received. Just a friendly tip for anyone subscribed to Ipsy, always review your products at the end of the month. It’s helped me substantially and I have been happy with most of the products in my bags the past 5-6 months.

If you’re subscribed to Ipsy, let me know in the comments what you got! I would love to chat!

February Ipsy 2016

ipsy glam bag

Hey beauties,

Ah, February, that time of the year with that one holiday where some people gag from an overload of love and others gag watching it unfold. There’s always makeup though, right?

If you’re new to my blog, I have been subscribed to Ipsy for a little over 2 years now. They’re a monthly beauty subscription service that costs $10 per month, and they send out 4-5 full sized or deluxe sample sized beauty related items. These can be makeup, skincare, and even hair care items.

First off, I am head over heels in love with the bag this month. It’s my favorite yet. Usually, I kinda forget about my bags or just use them as toddler snack holders, but this one will actually be used for lipsticks in my purse. It’s just too cute.

Okay, now on to what I actually received this month.

1. Luxie Beauty small tapered brush– I was SO HAPPY to see this in my glam room sneak peak. I ordered the bigger Luxie blending brush awhile back thanks to an Ipsy deal, and it’s  one of my most used eye brushes. These brushes are cruelty free, and the pink handles speak to my girly side. I highly recommend these brushes. I’ve already used this one several times, and it’s love at first stroke. This works really well if you’re wanting to put a darker shade more concentrated in the crease…which is something I do constantly.

2. Smashbox Primer Oil– This is another sample I was happy to see in my bag this month. I’ve seen several mention this product already on Youtube and Instagram, but I don’t always like the thought of dropping a lot of money on a hyped up product. This sample size isn’t very big, but I can make it work for a few foundation applications. I have incredibly dry skin, so I’m hoping that this primer oil will be perfect for me. I’ll probably be updating you all on this in a later post or video,

3. Seraphine Botanicals Carrot + Rose Moisturizer– I’ll be honest, I think carrots and roses sound like an odd scent combination. However, I love trying out new moisturizers, and this one is vegan and works on the face and body. I’ve been wanting to find a more organic and cruelty free facial moisturizer, and now I can try one without spending $50. Let’s be real, skincare can get really expensive. I don’t mind skincare samples at all.

4. Naked Cosmetics Mica Pigment– This product was a full size I believe, and I love eyeshadows! This shadow is pretty neat and has a super long ingredient list of 3 things. This is supposed to be a non-allergenic pigment. I will say that when I opened this pigment up it was very finely milled, almost too finely milled. It was pretty messy. However, the shade is really pretty. I received the shade Sierra Nevada 2 which is a light champagne type of shade. I don’t know how great this would do alone, but I do feel this is going to look stunning over other shades this Spring and Summer.

5. Chella Lipstick Pencil in Passionate Pink– Right off the bat, I don’t like pink lipstick.  There are very few shades of pink I will wear. I do think this pink shade leans more towards the orange side, which definitely means I won’t wear it. This lip pencil is pretty though and did swatch smoothly and has a nice pigment to it. I just don’t foresee myself using it. I do think my mom will like this shade, so I’ll probably gift it to her.

Overall thoughts– I am happy happy with mostly everything I received this month! The only thing I feel “meh” about is the lip pencil, but I understand that Ipsy put in there in the spirit of Valentine’s Day this month. I’m already in love with the brush, and I am itching to try the primer oil and eye pigment.

Ipsy January 2016 “All Eyes on You”

IMG_4657

Hey beauties,

It’s time to see what’s in the first Ipsy bag of the year, woooo! This month’s theme is “All Eyes on You” and I’m not too sure why the bag is so bright. It’s still Winter…sometimes. It’s not always Winter in Tennessee right now. It’s cold one day and chilly the next. I have a feeling this season will be easy or we’re going to be buried in snow next month.

Anyway, if you’re unfamiliar with Ipsy they’re a monthly beauty subscription that costs $10 per month. Typically everyone receives 4-5 full sized or sample sized items. Some are drugstore items and some are high end. I have personally been subscribed for over 2 years now, but I had a 1 month break. Yeah, I’m weak when it comes to beauty subscriptions. If you’re interested in seeing what I got and my thoughts for this month, just keep reading.

  1. Hanalei Sugar Lip Scrub: I went to the Hanalei brand site, and this retails for $20, but I’m not sure if the one in my Ipsy bag is a full sized or deluxe sample size. Either way, this has a lot of product in it! I love lip scrubs, and I use the frequently. This one feels really soothing and tastes great. I’m also happy to say that this brand is cruelty and paraben free!
  2. Burt’s Bees cleansing oil: I love Burt’s Bees to begin with, and I’m pretty excited to try this cleansing oils. I personally like using oils on my skin because I feel it hydrates my face, and Burt’s Bees is a brand that I already trust to be on my face. Wait…you know what I mean.
  3. Skone Cosmetics Smudger Brush: I feel like I’ve gotten a few things from this brand before that I didn’t like, but I can’t recall off the top of my head. This brush retails at $15, and is pretty small. Skone is also cruelty free. I still haven’t decided what exactly I will use this brush for, but it is really small and seems like it would make a great precision brush for cut crease looks or for blending shades on the outer part of the eye.
  4. The Balm Mr. Write Now Eyeliner “Bourdeaux:” This is the one thing I was so excited for this month. You all know how much I love The Balm and their eye products. This liner retails for $17, and I’m stoked I got the plummy brown shade and not the gold shade that was also being sent out. Gold just isn’t my shade, but this one is. I can’t wait to include this in some future looks!
  5. Pixi Mesmerizing Mineral Duo ‘Lavender Bloom:” This cute little duo retails at $6. Pixi is one of my favorite cruelty free drugstore brands, but they can be on the pricier side so getting samples from them through Ipsy is always fun. I am so impressed with this duo. I haven’t worn them on my eyes yet, but they felt so nice when I swatched them. They felt very smooth and promising.

Overall thoughts: I am very pleased with this month’s bag! I feel it was a high value bag filled with brands and products that I love and will use. Personally, I love getting brushes and lip care products because it’s one less thing I need to to buy, which means more money for lipstick. Or coffee. It’s been coffee lately.

If you’re interested in signing up I do have a referral link: https://www.ipsy.com/new?refer=1qkf

If you’re subscribed to Ipsy, what were your thoughts on this month’s bag? I’ve seen a lot of love, and I’ve seen some negative thoughts, but I’m interested in all of your thoughts. Or just comment with whatever you’re feeling. I just like to talk.

I hope you all enjoyed this post. I should be getting my Lip Monthly bag soon, so be on the lookout for that post! If you’re not signed up for emails or following me, make sure to do so if you want! It’s free 🙂

As always, thanks for reading, and I hope you’re all having wonderful days!

December Ipsy Bag

december ipsy

Another month, another Ipsy bag. Okay, I know that’s not a thing at all, but just go with it. 2015 is coming to a close and I have no idea where this hell this year went, but I’m trying to cheer myself up with makeup. Alright, I do that in a lot of situations.

Anyway, before this turns into some weird Makeup Addicts Anonymous post, let’s get into why I’m really sitting here today. I received my Ipsy glam bag in the mail at last! Usually I get my Ipsy bag a week before now, but I think with all the holiday stuff going on everything has been slowed down a wee bit.

First off, the bag is very festive. It’s just a shiny red bag, but I actually dig it. I think red is such a classic shade, and the material is the kind that will make this bag toddler proof so I can put it in my purse.

So, what’s in my last Ipsy bag of 2015? Continue reading if you want to find out…

First off, if you’re unfamiliar with Ipsy, they’re a beauty subscription that arrives every month and costs $10. Typically, there’s a mixture of high end and indie brand makeup, some full sized and some deluxe sample sized. My biggest tip is to review your products every month. It does make a difference in your bags. I’ve been getting more high end samples the past few months, and I think it’s because I consistently review all products. I’ve personally been subscribed for a little over 2 years now.

Clark’s Botanicals deep moisture mask- This is a pretty decent sized sample for a mask. I know I have mentioned my skin type before, but my skin gets dryer than a snake’s in Winter. I can’t wait to try this mask out!

Peter Lama’s Hand Cream- Not gonna lie, Peter Lama sounds like a former celebrity name that I should be seeing in weird late night infomercials. This hand cream smells nice, but I already have so many hand creams to use up. However, I will probably end up using this one. Have you ever felt your hands in the winter after washing dishes for 30 mins straight? It’s awful, and I feel uncomfortable thinking about it.

Tarte Cosmetics Smooth Operator Powder- I was really happy to see this in my bag! I love Tarte cosmetics, but I don’t always have the money to splurge on their face products. I’ve been wanting to try this baking thing all the kids have been raving about, so I may get to try it now!

Pacifica Power of Love Natural Lipstick- This is a full sized product that everyone received this month, and I got the shade Nudie Red, which is a lovely brownish red color. I haven’t tried many natural lipsticks, but I love Pacifica! The packaging is really freakin’ cute too. I love the hearts all over the tube.

Elizabeth Mott Thank Me Later Eye Primer- I have so many eye primers, but it is something I use everyday. I’ve never been disappointed with any Elizabeth Mott product I’ve received, so I will try this one out as well. Maybe this one can replace my Too Faced one once I use it up. The Too faced primer is raved about, but it dries my eyelids out terribly.

Colourpop Shadow in Stereo- I had some points to redeem, and was able to snag a Colourpop shadow before everyone else got one! I almost always miss out on cool rewards, so I was happy to get this one since I already love Colourpop so much. I also got a Luxie shadow single, but I put that in my z palette and forgot to include it in the photo. Whoops. Stereo is a really shimmery dark burgundy though, which is a shade I wear very often.

Well, that’s everything I got in my bag this month!

If you’re not signed up and you want to, just click here.

If you are subscribed to Ipsy, what did you get in your bag this month?

As always, thanks for reading, and I hope you’re all having wonderful days! Oh, and happy whatever you celebrate if you do celebrate anything!

November Ipsy Bag

november ipsy glam bag

Hey beauties,

It’s obviously beauty subscription unbagging week. Also known as one of my favorite weeks of the month. I unbagged everything from my November Lip Monthly bag a few days ago, so today we’re going to take a peak into my November Ipsy bag.

If you’re unfamiliar with Ipsy, they’re a beauty subscription that arrives monthly and costs $10 a month. They typically send out 4-5 deluxe sample sized items or full sized items. I’ve been subscribed to them for a little over 2 years now.

If you follow my blog, you probably already know that the past few months have been weird for me regarding Ipsy bags. Two months ago my bag was stolen out of my mailbox, and last month an item was missing. I’m happy to say that this month the curse is broken and everything arrived safe and sound. Good thing, because this month looks really promising!

First off, I’m dying over the bag. It’s my personal favorite bag so far, design wise. I love galaxy printed anything and everything. I’m a bit of a space junkie, which is something I don’t think I’ve mentioned often on here or anywhere.

Anyway, I received five items in my bag and this is what they were:

1. Benefit Gimme Brow (Sample Size) I was pretty happy to see this in my glam room. I’ve always been curious about it, but I don’t enjoy spending a ton of money on brow products because my brows just don’t respond well to many products. So, having a sample size will be nice! Gimme Brow is a cult favorite as it’s supposed to have little fibers in it that cling to your brow hairs, making them look more voluminous. Not gonna lie, that’s something I need. I do not have full brows, and I never have.

2. Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara (Deluxe Sample) It’s rare that I get two high end samples in Ipsy bags, so that in itself is pretty exciting. I have never personally tried this mascara, but with many mascaras I see a lot of either love or absolute loathe regarding it. I do love trying out new mascaras though! I will admit I have a lot of these little mini samples stashed away at the moment that I need to try out, so if you all want me to start reviewing these as I start running out of mascara (because I hate having a million tubes open, personally) then just let me know!

3. Inspr Beauty Angled Brush Honestly, I love getting brushes in my Ipsy bags. It means one less brush for me to but, and I have received some pretty awesome brushes from Ipsy! My elf brow angled brush has seen better days, and I was just thinking about how I needed a fresh one. Well, now I have one. I can’t wait to see if this is as great as my elf angled brush!

4. LeAnni Ecco Go Away Gloomy Day Serum I have neither received anything from this brand, nor have I even heard of them before this month’s bag. However, I love facial serums. I have a really dry skin type, and this time of the year I go through so many moisturizers and serums. I mean, if this serum will cheer me up I will totally try it out. This was a pretty gracious sample size for a serum, and will probably last awhile.

5. Beaute Basics Sahara Gold Chubby Eye Pencil This product is reminiscent of my favorite Nyx jumbo pencils. I love chubby eye pencils because they work great alone, as a primer, or in the water line. This gold shade is really pretty, and perfect for this time of the year with the holiday season approaching.

Overall thoughts: I am pleasantly surprised with this bag. I feel that Ipsy has upped their game, and I’m sure their new survey and quiz system has something to do with that. I feel like I get less things that go completely unused to more things that I will at least try. I felt there was a good mix this month with high end samples, seasonal trending shades, and a tool that I will actually use regularly.

If there is anything in this bag that you would want to see a separate review on, please let me know! Also, tell me about what you got in your bag if you want!

As always, thanks for reading, and I hope you all enjoyed this short and sweet little unbagging!

October Ipsy: Alter Ego

october ipsy

Hey beauties!

It’s time for an unbagging! Today, I will be going over what I received in my October Ipsy bag. If you’re unfamiliar with Ipsy, they’re a monthly beauty subscription that sends 4-5 deluxe sample sized products or full sized products for $10 per month. I’ve been subscribed to them personally for almost three years now!

I believe the theme this month was “Alter Egos” since it’s October, and the bag is black on one side and gold on the other. I think it’s a cute theme. I suppose I have an alter ego. When I was younger I had a small group of friends that called me Vanessa, and Vanessa was a super outgoing girl and wasn’t as anxious as I am in real life. Is that how alter egos work? We’re rolling with it.

Anyway, remember when I said that last month my bag was stolen out of my mailbox? Well, this month I had an item missing. Totally not Ipsy’s fault, it’s just been an unlucky couple of months for me in terms of getting makeup in the mail unharmed. I’m still going to do this unbagging though and just mention the thing I’m missing, since they are being kind enough once again and sending me the item I’m missing.

1. Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion: This is the item I’m missing. So, I’m not heartbroken per say, but I am looking forward to trying this. I’ve loved everything I’ve gotten from Dr. Brandt, and they are an expensive brand, so I do enjoy samples I get from them. I’m still using the pore reducing primer I got awhile back.

 2. Dose Color Pill Nail Polish in Stormy Personally, I love getting nail polishes in my beauty subscriptions! I love that this polish is shaped like a pill, and the color is very unique to my collection! It’s a dark grayish-purple shade that is right up my alley and will definitely get used!

3. Emite Makeup Tweezer Okay, not gonna lie, I was not happy about getting tweezers in my bag this month. I’m one of those people that doesn’t feel certain brands of tweezers make any difference, and I already have about 10 lying around my house in different places. However, when I got this set it does feel different than my others. I have used it a few times, and it works really well for getting those tiny stubborn little hairs out near your eyebrows! Not a total loss in the end.

4. Delectable Coconut Hand Cream I love getting hand creams in my bags because it saves me from having to buy them. I always have a hand cream in my purse, and another in my car. I have really dry skin and my hands get eczema patches in the fall and winter, and on top of that I am constantly washing dishes. My hands can feel super dry and almost cracked some days, so having hand creams everywhere is fine by me. I love the scent of this one, and it was way bigger in size than I thought! It will last me a long while.

5. The Balm’s Meet Matt(e) Hughes Liquid Lipstick in Committed Okay, I was almsot squealed when I saw this in my bag. I wanted it sooo bad! I’ve been wanting to try these liquid lipsticks, but I can’t justify getting another liquid lipstick right now. So, shout out to Ipsy for obviously reading my mind.I really love this shade as well. It’s a dark pinky-nude. I would swatch it, but there’s so little in the tube because it’s just a sample that I don’t want to waste. However, I will probably be doing a short review on it in the next couple of weeks for anyone interested!

That’s everything I got in my October Ipsy bag! What did you all get? Were you happy with your bag? Better yet, do you have an alter ego?

I’m really happy with my bag this month even if one item was missing, and I really love Ipsy’s review system which is why I believe my bags have been better catered to my wants over the past few months. Always review your bag at the end of the month, I promise it makes a difference.

As always, thanks for reading, and I hope you’re all having wonderful days!

September Ipsy Unbagging

september ipsy

Hey lovelies,

I know this Ipsy unbagging is suuuuuper late, but I just now got my replacement bag! If you follow me on Twitter, I kinda had a mini meltdown after I came home to a pink envelope with no glam bag inside. You know when you’ve had a rough couple of days and you’re looking forward to something and your day gets ruined? That was what happened to me. I know it’s just makeup, it was just the point. Why leave the pink envelope?

Anyway, Ipsy was kind enough to send me a replacement bag! If you’re unfamiliar with Ipsy, they’re a beauty subscription that costs $10 per month, and you get 4-5 deluxe sample sized products or full sized products. I’ll leave my referral at the end, but don’t use it if you don’t want to!

Ipsy and Nyx 3 shadow palette: this palette is actually really cute! I had one similar to it, but it’s a few years old and I probably need to get rid of it. I love neutrals and dark colors, and this little palette is perfect for creating a really quick smokey eye. I don’t particularly like that it doesn’t have a matte, personally, but you can only do so much with 3 eyeshadow shades.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream: I was honestly sooo happy to see this in my glam room! This repair cream is a holy grail of mine, especially in the Fall and Winter. I struggle with eczema around my nose and mouth mostly, and this helps with that tremendously. It’s never broken me out and it’s thick, but it doesn’t feel thick on my skin. It is a bit pricey, so I will gladly take this small backup.

X Formula Nail Polish in “Ignite” Not gonna lie, I was most excited about this item in my bag in September. I have never tried this line of nail polishes, and the color they sent was perfect for me. Usually I get shades I never use in beauty subscriptions, but I see myself using this up quickly and I will probably buy the full size. I mean, look at it, it’s perfect.

Bare Minerals Lipstick in “Get Ready” I was actually supposed to get the Trestique matte lip crayon in my original bag, but I will gladly accept this as well! This shade is a really pretty darker nude pink shade, a “my lips but better” shade for my skin tone. I haven’t tried many things from Bare Minerals in general, so I am pretty excited to try out their lipstick!

ClariSea Black Coal Detoxifying Exfoliant: At first I was skeptical because I thought to myself, “I can’t do much with this little product,” but my tune changed once I had this in my hands. You put a quarter size amount in your face wash and exfoliate your face with your everyday skin wash! Neat! I’ve used this a few times, and I will say that if you have sensitive skin to use a light hand, because this scrub can be a bit abrasive. It’s also very salty, so make sure your mouth is closed. Don’t ask.

Well, that’s everything I got in my bag this month! I’m really happy with this month, I think it’s one of my favorites! I’m also very satisfied with Ipsy’s customer service, and I am grateful that they sent me a replacement bag. I unsubscribed to Ipsy for a few months, but months like this remind me why I’ve been looking forward to my pink envelopes for over two years now. If you’re subscribed to Ipsy, what did you get this month? Tell me about it in the comments!

As always, thanks for reading, and I hope you’re all having wonderful days!

Ipsy August 2015: Prep School

IMG_1313

Hey beauties,

It’s the middle of the month again, which means my Ipsy glam bag and other beauty subscriptions will be popping into my mailbox. Today, I’m going to be talking about what I got in my Ipsy bag for August. The theme for this month is “prep school” and I’m guessing the general theme was “back to the basics” so many people received brushes, liners, glosses, etc. Things that are simple, yet glamorous for the school year. I will admit that getting school related things makes me feel anxious and brings back horrible memories of tests, but that’s another topic for another day.

If you’re unfamiliar with Ipsy, they’re a beauty subscription that costs $10 per month that sends out 4-5 deluxe samples or full sized items based on your beauty profile. They typically have a pretty great variety of products that are sent out. I will link my referral code at the end of the post, but please don’t feel pressured to use it. I just leave it there in case anyone wants to sign up and give me some points in the process.

This month, I actually received a lot of full sized items, which is always exciting!

Marc Anthony Nourishing Argan Oil Treatment: This is a deluxe sample size, but in terms of hair oils, there’s a lot in this sample. I was really happy to see this in my bag because I use an oil of some sort in my hair everyday. I have naturally curly and frizzy hair, so oils are a bit essential to my hair care routine.

Pencil Me In Cosmetics Liner in “Boysenberry” This is a full sized liner, and it’s more of a bluish-purple color…or a blurple type of shade. Eh, I swatched this already and while the color is pretty, it didn’t swatch too smoothly. I don’t tend to wear many blue shades on my eyes because I feel it looks weird with my eye color. I might end up passing this on to someone.

Hikari lip gloss in “Salsa” I have received quite a few Hikari items in the past, and I do enjoy their brand as a whole! This lip gloss is a very pretty shade of red, and we all know how I am about my reds. This is another full sized product, and I can’t wait to try it out!

Skone Cosmetics Liner in “Wine” This is the first time I’ve ever gotten anything from this brand! This is another full sized item. At first, I wasn’t thrilled because I have a lot of wine shades in my lip liner collection already, but then I saw this one doubles as an eye liner as well! I’ve actually been wanting a wine shade of liner because I don’t personally feel comfortable putting things designated for the lips near my eyes. It’s just a personal preference. Okay, it’s actually because the last time I put something lip related near my eye I freaked out all day and was convinced I was going to get an infection of some sort #dontjudgeme Anyway, I’m excited about this product and I can’t wait to include it in a few fall looks!

Marsk Pro Line Shadow Brush I know that some find getting brushes to be annoying, but I love it! I am constantly getting brushes dirty because I wear so many different colors, so having more is always a necessity. That and I have discovered some awesome brush lines through Ipsy, including Luxie brushes. From what I felt, this brush is dense and will be ideal for packing on shadow onto the lid.

Well, that is everything that I got in my Ipsy bag this month! What did you get? Chat with me in the comment section if you want!

Have a good day, lovelies.

Face of the Day: My “go to” Date Night Look

IMG_8097

Hey lovelies,

How is everyone? I’m sitting down and typing this out on a Tuesday, and it’s been a weird day. A mostly happy day with some weird things. I started my day off by getting pooped on and I broke my favorite jewelry holder on my foot and I bled everywhere. However, once my kids laid down for a nap I was able to sit down and plan out my look for this week. I also had a great selfie day. There’s just something about looking through pictures and thinking, “Damn, I look nice,” that can perk a lady right up. And yes, you’re allowed to think you look damn good sometimes…or everyday. Because you all look nice everyday.

Anyway, today’s look is going to be my “go to” date night look lately. I tried to put my Kat Von D palette down for once and use all single shadows and some new products that I want to talk about a bit more. My go-to style of makeup in general is usually a pretty crease, a light lid, cat eye and fun lipstick. I know this differs for everyone, but I’m a bit “all or nothing” when it comes to my makeup. So, on date nights I like to go all out and feel happy and confident. For me, that includes red lipstick and cat eyes.

I also put on an outfit that I would probably wear on a night out (a dress) and curled my hair. Without further adieu, let’s get into the details.

My base today is actually a wee bit different than normal. I haven’t used my Hard Candy primer in awhile, so I pulled it out for this look. I actually like this primer, and do find it helps my makeup to truly stick, even in the Summer. My foundation is Nyx’s Invincible foundation in “Fair” mixed with a bit of my City Color tinted moisturizer in “fair” to thin it out a bit. That’s my number one tip for full coverage foundations on dry skin…a tinted moisturizer or a bit of beauty oil will thin out a matte foundation a bit making it lay better on the skin. I find this doesn’t take away too much coverage, but my skin has also been relatively clear lately.

My concealer is my usual…La Girl’s pro concealer in “porcelain.” However, today I set my under eyes with the City Color HD setting powder that I got in my July Ipsy bag. My first impression is that I enjoy this powder. Loose powder annoys me a bit in the sense that it’s pretty messy, but I did find this powder to be finely milled and very silky feeling.

For my contour I used the dark shade in the Elf contour kit. Blush is “Birthday Suit” by Colourpop, and highlight is “Smokin Whistles” also by Colourpop.

My brows are my usual as of late, which is the Milani brow pomade in “Dark Brown” and set with Nyx’s brow mascara in “Black”

Okay, so for my eyes I primed with my Too Faced Shadow insurance. My transition shade is actually from a sample I received from Shiro Cosmetics called “Mourning.” It’s a lovely medium toned orangey-beige shade that is perfect for warmer toned looks because it’s not too orange. Don’t worry, I’ve ordered the full size. Then as a second transition shade I took “Dirty” by My Pretty Zombie Cosmetics (not pretty zombie cosmetics, it confused me at first too). Because I like to look like a big eyed doll at times, I did a rounded shape and took this pretty far in close to the bridge of my nose.

On my lid is actually a Colourpop shadow called “Acorn.” This came from their Spring collection, and I love it. It’s a pearlized cream color, so it gives dimension to this look without being shimmery. I applied this with my finger, which is how you get the most pigmentation with Colourpop shadows. However, concealer brushes work as well! The outer color is “A regular Bears Meeting” by Shiro Cosmetics.

Normally, I would use black liner for my wing. However, I’m still on the colored liner kick and I created a liner using Shiro Cosmetics’ “A War of Five Armies” shadow (see my method here) and I feel this really made the green in my eyes stand out. It’s a lovely dark burgundy shade. Lashes are the same ones that I talked about in my last video that you can watch here if interested. They’re just ebay lashes, but I love how wispy and romantic they look.

In my water liner I have Nyx’s jumbo eye pencil in “Milk.” Then I have “Mourning” blended out and “Dirty” closer to the lash line and slightly blended out. Mascara is Maybelline’s The Falsies. My inner corner highlight is super dramatic. You don’t have to be as dramatic as me. I used “Swan” from Colourpop. I love this as an inner corner highlight.

vampira

For my lips, it’s just Kat Von D’s “Vampira.” I haven’t worn this liquid lipstick in a bit, and I forgot how much I truly adore this shade and formula. It applies evenly and lasts all day. It feels comfortable and applies like a dream. I definitely want to get my hands on quite a few of the new shades when my local Sephora has all of them. I set my entire face with Urban Decays All Nighter spray.

Funny story about my hair: if you follow me on twitter, you would have seen me mention that I did a wet set using foam rollers and said I looked like “a punk poodle.” I did. It was bad. I put my hair in a bun and the next day (today) my hair looked better, and I went over the weird parts with a curling iron. This was the result. From punk poodle to glorious curls.

My necklace is from Bella Morta Jewelry, and my dress was actually a clearance find from Marshall’s.

I hope you all enjoyed this look! Tell me about your go to looks, for dates or whenever else. What makes you feel sexy and sassy?

Have a good day, lovelies.
