BH Cosmetics Foil Eyes Palette Review

bh cosmetics foil eyes palette

Ah, another day, another palette review.

I know I’ve done quite a few palette reviews over the past few weeks, but with good reasoning. 1. I actually sold a few non-cruelty free palettes and ones I wasn’t reaching for so I could justify buying some new and more colorful palettes 2. Well, these reviews benefit anyone else that’s curious, right? Just think of me as your friendly neighborhood kinda goth makeup guinea pig.

Anyway, I have a review of the new BH Cosmetics Foil Eyes palette. Ironically, a few of the palettes I placed up for sale on my Postmark are from BH Cosmetics. I wasn’t going to get this one until I saw Shannon Shortcake’s comparison video. I am quite sure she had some hypnosis going on in that video because before I knew it, I had this in my cart and was checking out.

Shimmer shadows and foiled shades are something I’ve been trying to work more with this past year. I find they add so much dimension and glamour to a look, but aren’t as hard to use as say glitter. Some of the most popular foiled shadows are from Makeup Geek, but those are also $10 a shade, which isn’t in everyone’s budget. They’re gorgeous, don’t get me wrong, but I love seeing other brands create more affordable “dupes” of cult favorites.

This palette comes with 28 shades, and I ordered it for $12. That’s roughly 42 cents per shade, which is pretty freakin sweet compared to the $10 per shade Makeup Geek’s foiled shadows are.

This palette is also vegan friendly, and claims to contain highly pigmented metallic shades that are easy to blend. That’s some high claims for a shadow, but how did these stand against my own high standards? Let’s start with the basics.

The packaging itself is very standard, and very boring. The top of it is clear though, which is something I like with palettes of this sort. I wish my Morphe palettes had clear tops so I wouldn’t have to flip them upside down constantly. I will say that my palette arrive in one piece, but some of the pans were a bit loose. The glue that holds these in seems to be a bit cheap, but if this occurs to you the solution is simple, you can just place them back with hot glue and reinforce them. Mine did press back down though, so it wasn’t too big of a bother. Just something to be aware of.

The shade selection in this palette is dreamy. Observe:

Right off the bat, I love the shade selection and lay out of this palette. It’s very aesthetically pleasing to me, and I love the wide variety of shades. This is a palette that I feel everyone can find several shades they love. There are purples, pinks, blue, neutrals, coppers, and even a “blue brown” type of shade. Paired with the right matte palettes, you can create any type of look your heart desires. I legitimately gasped when I saw the purple and lilac shades in person. I have such a weak spot for shimmery purples. I feel they make my green eyes stand out, and it’s one of the only colors outside of neutrals that I feel truly comfortable working with.

As for swatches:

These are all swatched under no primer and under daylight lamps. Are these as reflective as the Makeup Geek foiled shadows? Certainly not, but in my opinion, these are really amazing for the low price point! What’s even better is the fact that you can spritz a bit of setting spray on your brush and wear these wet. That’s going to create that more “metallic” effect if that’s what you’re desiring. The only shade that disappointed me when I swatched these was the blackened teal shade. It really wasn’t “foiled” to me and looked kinda blah and one dimensional. That’s really the only shade that was like that for me though.

These shadows can be a bit powdery, and I recommend tapping your brush before applying to your eyes. Makeup Geek’s can be a bit powdery on me as well, which is why I gravitate towards using my fingers to apply the darker shades. I’m not trying to give myself a bright blue highlight.

I’ve applied these wet and dry, with a brush, and with my finger. Of course, with most shimmer shadows, applying with your finger is going to give the greatest pigmentation. However, I’ve found that these apply very well with a flat shader brush as well. Paired with the right  matte palette(s), you can create some stellar colorful looks and neutral looks!

I’ve been creating looks with this palette for a little over a week now. I got this palette about the same time as my Makeup Geek and Manny MUA palette, and I’m not gonna lie, I’ve reached for this one more than the Makeup Geek one.

In the first look I used the peachy toned shade dry and then went over it again with a wet brush and used the white shade in the inner corner. In the second look I used the charcoal shimmer on the lid for a “halo” effect, and then used the bright blue and yellow on the lower lash line. I wanted to show the versatility of this palette by doing one “soft” look and another fun look that was actually completely out of my comfort zone.

I also created a talk through tutorial using this palette, where I show the steps on creating the first peachy look I did:

Overall, I’m enjoying this palette so much right now! It’s been fun to play with as the days grow longer and a tad bit warmer, which automatically makes me want to add a bit of shimmer and color to my makeup routine. Not to mention, this palette is affordable and I feel it’s one anyone that wants to add some shimmer to their eye makeup routine should look into!

This has to be my favorite palette BH Cosmetics has come out with thus far. I loved the Zombies palette, but I feel BH nailed trying to create a palette that everyone would enjoy, from neutral to color lovers.

What are your thoughts on this palette? Will this be one that you add to your collection? Let me know your thoughts down below! I love hearing from you all.

As always, thanks for stopping by. I hope you all found this review informative or entertaining in some way. I hope you you’re all having wonderful days.

Lip Swatch: Jeffree Star Cosmetics “Posh Spice”

Hey lovelies,

It’s Saturday! Hooray and stuff! I know that I usually have more elaborate Swatch Saturdays planned, but today I want to do a quick post. Have no fear, I have a few really awesome reviews on new products coming up! I did a bit of shopping. Okay, a lot of shopping, but with all these new releases happening all at once, can you blame me?

Something that I picked up virtually in the midst of my pajama friendly shopping spree I ended up picking up “Posh Spice” by Jeffree Star Cosmetics. I only picked that one up because I ordered quite a few colorful things from Colourpop. I originally wasn’t going to order it, but the free shipping deal sucked me in, and I saw several swatches on Instgram that made my heart flutter. Instagram made me do it.

This shade is described as a “greige taupe” and I feel that’s a very proper description.

I will link my previous review of this brand at the end of this post, but can we talk about how gorgeous this shade is? It’s a darker nude that I feel will suite many skin tones. As always, I swatch in natural light and I have very fair skin with cool undertones for reference.

Just as a quick overview though, the Velour Liquid Lipsticks are very pigmented and apply smoothly. They also don’t dry down fully and stay about 5% tacky so that they wear comfortably and won’t crumble. They are transfer proof, and kiss proof. They are not make out proof though, just a heads up.

The applicator on these are my favorites as well. They are very “brush” like, which makes applying so much easier, in my opinion. I typically don’t have to go back in with a small lip brush to perfect anything, unless we’re getting up close and personal like we are today.

These are $18 a piece, which is higher end, but I honestly feel these are worth it. There’s a lot of product in these, and this formula is probably my all time favorite. I wear “Unicorn Blood” constantly.

I will definitely be sporting this shade as the weather cools down. Have you picked up any amazing and unique lipstick shades lately? Tell me about it!

I hope you all enjoyed this quick swatch post! As always, thanks for reading, and I hope you’re all having lovely days!

Lips of the Day: Makeup Monsters

makeup monsters

Hey beauties,

Today I’m doing another Lip of the Day post! The last one I did (will link it at the end of this post) had a lot of positive feedback, so I’m going to try and make this a regular thing.

I know that Mondays can kinda-sorta-really-really suck, so I want to do a fun ombre look.

Personally, I love taking two colors and mixing them together to create new colors and/or doing ombre looks with them, because it’s like having multiple colors without having to buy extra products.

I have done a full review of Makeup Monsters on my Youtube Channel, and I do stand by what I said then. I think this brand is a great one to look into if you’re looking for new indie brands to try. Plus, they’re vegan friendly and pretty affordable in terms of liquid lipstick.

Anyway, the colors I have today are “Blackened Heart” and “Sedona,” and both are stunning colors alone. I actually mentioned “Sedona” in my May Favorites video.

Tip: To avoid getting the applicators muddy looking with different colors, use lip brushes for ombre looks and to mix shades together. I also clean up the outside lip line with my Nyx wonder pencil in “light.”

I’m really happy with how these look together.

All of the old and new colors from Makeup Monsters will actually be restocked this Friday! These sell out so quickly, so I highly suggest that if you want one or ten, to make sure you’re on the site when restock happens and order quickly. It’s almost like a limited edition MAC release makeup brawl on that site during restock. I’ve had lipsticks stolen out of my virtual cart. Shit gets real.

What are your thoughts on these? Will you be picking any up during restock this week?

As always, thanks for reading, and I hope you’re all having splendid days!

Review: Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks

jeffree star

Today I want to talk about my favorite thing…lipstick! I’m always down to talk about lipstick, but more specificially, liquid lipsticks. They seem to be talked about everywhere at the moment. I own quite a few different brands myself. Honestly, I’m addicted to liquid lipsticks. I love trying out new brands and seeing their color ranges. Is it a problem? Maybe. Am I gonna stop? Never.

I like liquid lipsticks because they are just easier to me. If they’re long lasting and easy to apply, I can put them on and still look glamorous without having to worry about lipstick being all over my teeth 5 minutes later.

Jeffree Star has released his own line of liquid lipsticks, and they are blowing up instagram! When I saw that he was releasing a bundle that included a true red, a deep red, and a nude…I almost died. I knew they would sell out quickly (less than an hour later, to be precise) so I stayed up and painlessly snagged my bundle at 3 am est. Honestly, that was the least painful makeup release I have ever endured. The site didn’t crash, I didn’t get my shit stolen out of my cart…or my bank account *COUGH LIME CRIME* So, thumbs up for that.

I wanted to do this review mainly because these shades will be available again next month. So, if you’re on the fence about whether or not to buy these and need a bit more insight, you’re in the right place.

Jeffree Star’s Velour Liquid Lipsticks are vegan and cruelty free. They are also $18 a piece, but the bundle I purchased was $46, so it was discounted a bit.

Packaging: Lush. It’s so cute. I love the fat tubes, honestly. They’re so bold, yet sleek in their own way. Different than many other lipstick packages I’ve seen lately.

jeffree star

Application: These come with a doe foot applicator, but I did notice that the brush has a bit of movement to it. I like that. I like that I can easily maneuver the brush in tight spots and get the most crisp line possible.

Formula: This formula is incredible. It’s probably my new all time favorite liquid lipstick formula. It’s so light on the lips, it feels like I’m wearing nothing. It’s not too drying, yet this formula is super matte. It’s rare to find a liquid lipstick that’s super matte, yet not super drying at the same time. It almost feels like velvet.

Color Payoff: Freakin’ intense. These are very opaque. Even the nude “Celebrity Skin” is very opaque, which is different for me considering my natural lip color tends to throw most nude shades off a bit.

Longevity: Ya may want to sit down for this, but these are truly everything proof. I have said with LaSplash’s lipsticks that they can get crumbly after a bit, and most do, but Jeffree Star’s do not. They are truly kiss proof. Yes, I used my boyfriend for lipstick research. Kiss your boos in this lipstick it won’t budge.

jeffree star

Overall Thoughts: It’s probably obvious at this point that I’m legitimately #obsessed with this line of liquid lipsticks. I didn’t order the two newest pastel shades, because pastel shades on pasty skin just isn’t my thing. I love my nudes and reds, which is why I ordered this bundle back in February. I believe this bundle (or at least the colors in the bundle) will be restocked in April! So, if you missed out on these, you will get another chance to order these soon. I really do love this line, and I hope that Jeffree Star’s cosmetic line continues to soar and expand, especially if everything will be this high quality.

Here are some photos and swatches of the bundle:

This is the shade "unicorn blood" by far my favorite of the bundle. A warm burgundy red. Aka perfection.

"Celebrity Skin" a very beige nude color. Doesn't flatter my pale skin the best, but it pairs well with lip liners to change the color a bit.

"Redrum" an extremely true red shade with more orange undertones than blue, but it's a good in between. I adore this bright red.
