Sugarpill Sparkle Baby Palette

IMG_6695

Oh look, a wild palette appears!

I hope you all are having a lovely Saturday, and I hope you made a snack because I have a quick(er) and fun Swatch Saturday for today!

Okay, story time. On Mother’s Day my mom handed me a card and said, “There’s gift cards in there, one is for a lunch date and one is for makeup and only makeup…not diapers or things for the girls. Makeup. Buy a palette.” Yes ma’am, you don’t have to tell me twice. So, I bought this palette from Sugarpill because I’ve actually been wanting it for so long. The first time I truly wanted this palette was after Cora from VintageorTacky used it to create her Marie Antoinette look. Fun fact: I’m obsessed with Marie Antoinette and have a love for French history. They just really fascinate me. However, that’s not what this post is about today.

That’s my short backstory behind how this palette is now in my little paws.

Sugarpill is a cruelty free indie company that sells a lot of pastel and neon oriented things. If you’re in the mood to brighten up your face, go check this company out. That’s right, I bought something that isn’t neutral! I’m a bit burned out with neutral palettes at the moment *gasp* and I really wanted to add something colorful and flirty to my collection for Summer.

IMG_6705

This palette retails at $34, and the shipping was really quick. Also, can we talk about how cutely packaged everything is? I really adore companies that take the time to make sure EVERYTHING looks amazing when it’s shipped to a customer. When I recieved my package I also got a cute sticker and a sample of a loose pigment.

So, on to the actual palette. I’m going to talk about the packaging again, sorry. IT HAS A KITTEN ON IT. I die. It’s a kitten wearing a tiara. Honestly, this is the cutest palette I own so far. It’s a standard cardboard outside, but the kitten with the tiara makes me smile every damn time I look at it.

IMG_6696

When you open this palette up, there are 4 full sized shades in it. All of these shades are also sold separately for $12 each, so for $34 you’re getting all of them, which is a pretty decent discount.

Now, I will say that this is not a palette you would buy thinking there’s going to be a matte transition shade, a crease shade etc…you’ll have to use other shades to compliment this palette if that’s something you do. However, this palette comes with 4 stunning and pigmented shades that are perfect for Spring and Summer if you’re looking to do bold and/or flirty looks.

Pastels and bright shades tend to be hit and miss at times. Sometimes pastel shades can be very lacking in pigmentation, and sometimes bright shades can go on patchy and look dry.

How did these measure up? I’m getting to that!

IMG_6790

From left to right:

Kitten Parade- a peachy rose-gold shade with lots of shimmer

Frostine- a sheer lilac

Candy crush- a pastel mint shade

Hotsy Totsy- bright hot pink

Out of all of these, kitten parade is probably my favorite. I just really want to wear it everyday so that when people ask me what’s on my lids I can respond, “Kitten Parade.” Frostine took me a bit to build up, it’s a very sheer lilac shade. Pretty, but def not super “bam, in your face” pigmented. It does work beautifully to blend out edges if you’re using this palette to create a bright look though. Candy Crush also has a really nice texture to it, and while pigmented, you’ll get the best pigmentation if you use this over a white base like the Nyx Jumbo eye pencil in “Milk.” It’s super lovely, and I actually enjoy this shade as an inner corner highlight. Hotsy Totsy was the only one with a different texture than the rest. It was a bit dry. However, when I put it on my lid it blended out gorgeously and didn’t look dry on my lids. I think it feels a bit dry because it’s another one of those shades that’s a matte with shimmer added to the matte base. With that being said, with the right amount of blending this shade can be made into an out of this world hot pink matte shadow.

Overall, I’m so in love with this palette. I can’t wait to sit down and play with it more and create fun Summer looks with it. I may hate the Summer heat, but at least my eyeballs will be pretty.

I plan on filming a tutorial using this palette soon, so if you’re interested in that and are new to my blog, please follow me and/or subscribe to my channel!

As always, thanks for reading this post if you made this far, and I hope you’re all having wonderful days.

If you have any questions about this palette or in general, please ask!

Ipsy Bag March 2015

IMG_5222

Hello, lovelies

I have had a bittersweet relationship with Ipsy at times, but lately I have been pretty impressed with their bags, so today I wanted to share what I received in my March 2015 bag.

If you don’t know what Ipsy is, it’s a beauty subscription that costs $10 a month and they send you 4-5 full sized or deluxe sample sized makeup/skincare/hair products. I’ve been subscribed to them for over two years now, minus the few months I got too upset with them and cancelled.

I went back to them. I just feel that they are the best subscription I’ve come across that doesn’t cost $20+ dollars. I love trying things out, and I have discovered some incredible products through Ipsy.

This month’s theme was “Floral Fantasy” because yes…Spring is in the air. Can you smell it? Don’t sniff too hard, you may end up sneezing #allergyproblems. I think the bag for this month is probably one of my favorites of all time. It’s super cute. I use these bags for everything. Snacks, makeup, diaper bag nessecities, you name it.

Moving on, here’s what was in my bag this month:

1. Nyx Butter Lipstick in “Hunk” I was honestly so so excited when I saw this product in my glam room! I already own a few of the butter lipsticks, and I adore the formula! They’re very creamy and pigmented. I think this color is right up my alley. It’s not too bright, yet it’s still a very Spring type of color.

2. Dr. Brandt Pores No More Mattifying Lotion So, this is one of the items in my bag that I don’t quite understand why I got it. I retook my quiz which clearly states that I have very dry skin…so why send me a mattifying lotion? My skin does get a bit more oily in spring and summer though, so I may end up using it. I’ll at least try it despite scratching my head a bit over why I got this.

3. Boo-Boo Cover Up Okay, I was so excited to get this until I read the shade. I got the shade “medium” and that’s not my shade whatsoever? The product itself looks so awesome, so I’m really sad that chances are I’ll have to pass it on to someone and not even try it.

Dear Ipsy,
What’s the point in having a beauty quiz if you’re going to send me products that aren’t my skin tone?

Love,

A Confused Ipster

4. Vintage by Jessica Liebeskind Illuminating Face Highliter This is probably the product I was most excited about getting this month. I’m a highlighter addict. This highlighter is a super gorgeous pink, and even though I’m a bit too fair skinned to pull off pink highlighters, I’m going to use it as a blush topper. It could also be a gorgeous eyeshadow. I’ll find a purpose for it. It’s too pretty not to use.

5. Pur-lisse Gentle Soymilk Cleanser and Makeup Remover I have gotten a few pur-lisse products in the past, namely their very expensive moisturizer. I had about 3 of the samples saved up and I finally finished them all off a few weeks back. I really loved the moisturizer, so I’m excited to try this cleanser out.

swatches top to bottom: boo boo concealer in "medium" "vintage" face highlighter nyx butter lipstick in "hunk"

That was everything I got in my Ipsy bag this month. If you’re subscribed, what did you get?

Products I Regret Purchasing: Part One

IMG_4690

Hello beauties,
On this lovely Monday I would like to vent a bit. I feel that venting is appropriate for Mondays, right? It just seems like the universal day to grumble, and that’s alright. We all need to let it all out (don’t get too excited, I’m talking about words here) and just get the anger out of our systems.

I think it’s safe to say that most beauty and makeup enthusiasts have products that piss them off upon looking at them. It can’t just be me. I have products collecting dust in my vanity and every time I see them I feel so upset, mostly with myself for even buying them in the first place. TI buy these products on sale or because other bloggers and gurus raved about them so that obviously means I must have them as well. I actually have quite a few products of this nature, but I knew it would come with the territory of wanting to try out and review things. I’m constantly wanting to try new products and colors, and I know that in doing so I’m likely to come across a few duds.

Luckily, the great things I pick up truly do outweigh the shitty things I try. I will admit that many of the things that didn’t work out for me I didn’t look up reviews on them myself before buying. I’m a bit impulsive when it comes to beauty products (who would of guessed, right?).

Typical blogger disclaimer these are all personal thoughts and reviews of things that didn’t work out for me. I understand that one person’s trash is another’s treasure, but everyone is different and not everything works out for everyone. So don’t take it personally if something I mention is your holy grail 🙂

1. Essence Gel Eyeliner I bought this on recommendation from someone I follow on youtube. It was appealing because it was cheap. I just don’t enjoy the formula of this gel liner. It goes on patchy and weird for me, no matter how I attempt to put it on. It also fades super quick, and if I even thought about my eyes watering my cat wing would be ruined. Not cool. Momma likes a crisp wing. To be honest, I keep trying to make gel liners work and I don’t think they’re for me. I like liquid liners way too much.

2. Wet n Wild Max Volume Mascara I actually did a review on this product on my youtube channel, but seriously this product pisses me off every time I look at it. The pretty packaging pulled me in and I fell for it. The brush is awful, there’s nothing special about it. The bristles made it awkward to even try to coat all of my lashes, and all it really did was make my lashes black. It didn’t lengthen them or anything. If you have wimpy lashes like me, maybe skip on this one. I personally feel that the brush design is a total fail and a half.

3. Elf Studio Blush I have a major problem with these blushes. They look so pretty in the packaging, but they are not pigmented whatsoever. I don’t fully understand the hype. Yeah, they’re cheap, but it takes so much to get any color onto my cheeks that it’s not worth it. The mineral blush line by elf, which is $2 more, is incredible and these are just lacking, in my opinion. They lack pigmentation and fade after less than an hour on my cheeks, which is impressive considering I’m the literal shade of paper. I have about 4 of them because I kept thinking, “Well, maybe this one will be better,” but it never is. If you’ve also tried these blushes and you’re not impressed, try the mineral blushes. They’re awesome and actually last all day.

4. LA Colors Blush Oh look, another impulse buy. I found this at the dollar store one day and thought, “Why not?” Well, now I see why it’s at the dollar store. I wish there was at least one good thing I could say about this blush, but there isn’t. It’s going to be passed on to my toddler to play with. It’s not pigmented and it’s chalky feeling and terrible. It reminds me of the blush I had to use in middle in high school, and I’m really trying to avoid those memories *shudders at the memory of bright blue eyeshadow and glittery blush*

5. Wet n Wild Fergie Correcting Concealer This is a product that some will probably love, but it just didn’t work out for me. I also have a video reviewing this in greater detail, but it’s just way too thick. It reminds me of the hard candy “glamoflauge” concealer, and I can’t use that either. It gets too cakey under my eyes and settles into lines, even when I try to use it to spot conceal. It aged me about 5 years, and not in a good way. It made the skin under my eyes look cracked and wrinkly. My skin is just too dry for this kind of formula. Makes me a bit sad, I wanted it to work. If you have oilier skin than me, which is probably about everyone, this may work out well for you.

6. Physicians Formula Weird Moon Bronzer Thing I picked this up at CVS one day during their clearance sale for 75% off. It looked like a neat concept at the time, a matte color on one side and a shimmery gold shade on the other side. And I love moons! However, this is just an awkward design. I could never get my brush in there right and the gold side is not a very flattering color on pale skin, despite the claims that it was in a light shade. I have no beef with the formula or anything, just the design concept and color choices. It is very pretty though.

Okay, so there’s part one of this.
If you like posts like this, let me know!
Tell me about some of your regrets and disappointments. It’s okay, we can vent together.

ColourPop Blushes: Review + Swatches

IMG_4951

Hi, my name is Kayla and I’m addicted to ColourPop Cosmetics.
It’s true. I know I have mentioned them on my blog, on my youtube channel, in looks…and I’m sure that people are possibly tired of hearing about them. However, I know there are people that aren’t because they know that this brand is truly worth the hype, and it’s not often that I say that.

So, when I saw that they were releasing blushes I knew I was going to buy some.
If you’re unfamiliar with ColourPop, they are a brand based out of California. They are cruelty free, and I have recently discovered that most of their products are vegan. They are also incredibly affordable. Their eyeshadows and lipsticks are $5.
Their blushes are $8, but there is a ton more product in them.

For comparison:

colourpop blush

Left is a super shock shadow and right is a blush

As you can see, the blush is more than double the size of the shadow, so $8 is still a steal!
I ordered 4 so I could get free shipping (free US shipping at $30).

colourpop blush

Texture These feel a lot like the super shock shadows. Very creamy to the touch, yet they are powders. It’s some sort of sorcery, I swear. It does not take a lot to get pigmentation with these. Trust me, a little will go a long way.

Application The suggested application is with fingers, but if you’re anything like me putting your hands all over your face isn’t ideal. I’m happy to say that these also apply well with a brush. I used a Real Techniques stippling brush and the expert face brush, and both did the job well. You could probably dip a damp beauty blender that’s already in use in there as well and dab it on for a very subtle flush of color.

Pigmentation If you’re all familiar with the super shock shadows, you will know that those babies are beyond pigmented. They are magical. I’m convinced unicorns lick them and that’s why they’re so bright. The blushes are also super pigmented.

Longevity Yep, they also last as long as the eyeshadows as well. The mystery of the fading blush is a real thing in my life, and these did not fade.

colourpop cheerio

Cheerio– a satin finish blush. A deep cranberry color that leans towards Marsala, in my opinion.

IMG_4944

Between the sheets– a nude pink color with some beige tones in it. Matte finish. I think this shade is perfect for fair skin tones. It’s my ideal everyday shade, especially in Spring.

IMG_4945

Prenup– This is described as a plummy-pink on their website and that is accurate. I’m in love with this color.

IMG_4942

Birthday Suit– described as a neutral pink in a satin finish on their site. Because this is neutral, it can be worn with any eye look, and I like that about it. I wear about any blush with whatever look anyway, because screw rules, but you know…that’s my life.

IMG_4955

These are arm swatches, and seriously this only me building the color up once! They are super pigmented!

I managed to take a few pictures of me wearing “between the sheets.” Please focus on my cheeks, and not the rest of my face. I was in “mom mode.”

IMG_5068

Overall thoughts
– Colourpop has done it again. They have created a product that I am not head over heels in love with and that I will be collecting more of. I believe there are 20 colors in all, and they are all so beautiful. I love that they create shades that can be worn by everyone of every skin tone and they always make sure to swatch on different skin tones. Love this brand, and these blushes.

As usual, thank you for reading and I hope you’re all having lovely days.

Hard Candy Natural Eyes + Potential Dupe

IMG_4968

Let me start off by saying I rarely venture into Walmart. I live in Tennessee, and just trust me when I say you never know what’s going to happen when you venture into a Walmart. I’ve had some weird experiences. However, I went in to scope out their clearance and browse around since I was bored and feeling antsy.

I ended up coming across a few gems that I can’t believe I haven’t seen many reviews on yet! I don’t own many Hard Candy things since what I have tried by them has been bad (for me) but I saw they had some really cool new things, including new eyeshadow palettes!

What caught my eye the most about these palettes was how similar they looked to the Too Faced tin palettes…and I had a hunch that the one called “Natural Eyes” may be a dupe for the Natural Eyes palette by Too Faced.

My hunch was correct.

See:

hard candy natural

The packaging is obviously different, but still it’s the same concept.

hard candy natural eyes

ARE YOU ALL SEEING THIS? They look so similar! I’m so blown away by this right now!
The Too Faced palette retails at $36
Hard Candy: a wallet busting $8

The Hard Candy palette actually comes with more goodies though. It comes with a primer and an eyeliner. The eyeliner is meh (they usually are) but the primer is actually really nice!

I decided to do true side by side swatches…and the two palettes are truly very similar! Are they exact dupes? No. But if you’re looking for a cheaper alternative, try this palette out. While I was swatching the Hard Candy one I noticed the shades are very creamy and buttery, which is unusual for drugstore shadows. A few shades were a bit patchy, but not too bad. I’m overall super impressed with them.

IMG_4966

This is the side by side swatches, and I did put an awkward line down the middle to differentiate.
The Too Faced Natural Eyes palette is always going to have a special place in my heart, but I really love the Hard Candy one as well. I did swatch these over primer since that’s how most people wear shadows, and because I’m so pale that if I don’t some shades just don’t show up.
I may end up going back and picking up the Sassy one as well…because I’m sassy, that’s why.

IMG_4987(1)

IMG_5010(1)

This is a quick look I put together with the palette to test out how well they work with brushes. They blended beautifully! The matte shades are so pigmented and buttery, I’m in love already. The primer was really nice as well, and my shadows did not crease at all!
My overall thoughts are if you come across this, buy it. You can’t really go wrong with a palette like this that’s also cheap.

I had a hard time finding reviews of the new Hard Candy stuff, but if you have reviews of your own, please feel free to link them in my comments section! Or suggest something for me to try!

I did pick up one of their new foundations since the shade looked paper white (my perfect shade, yes!) so if you’re fair skinned and want to see my thoughts, make sure to follow me for updates!

As always, thanks for reading. Have a great day, lovelies.

20 Beauty Questions

Hi, my name is Kayla, and I really love tag posts.
I came across this one on beautybucketeer.com and decided to participate.

As usual, I tag anyone that wants to participate, and if you do please feel free to link your posts down below. I would love to read them!

1. What is the one product you’d grab if your house was on fire?
Slightly morbid question, but if I could get one makeup item in between making sure my family was safe I suppose I would choose my Kat Von D Innerstellar palette. Or my Jeffree Star lipsticks.
Eeek! How do you choose one?

IMG_3507

2. Which beauty vlogger would you want to do your makeover?
Probably Bailey from Baileybeautyxo. I love her style and she so talented and creative.

3. What celeb do people think you look like?
I get Christina Ricci often…? That and Natalie Dormer. I think it’s my nose.

4. What beauty product do you save for date night?
Date night is when I whip out all of my high end makeup and slather it on my face at the same time.

5. Which of your guy friends take longer than you to get ready?
I don’t really have any “guy friends” now that I’ve had kids, but one of my little brothers takes foreeeeevvvver to get ready.

6. If you could create your own miracle beauty product, what would it be?
Not too sure. Probably a foundation brand that caters to literally every individual and has more than 5 color choices. I feel that way too many makeup brands start right in the middle with foundations and then don’t go much further than that, and that’s not how skin works. It bugs me.

7. What’s your best beauty tip?
I actually have quite a few. One of my favorites is spraying my foundation brush with water to sheer out very thick foundation. Or heating up crappy liners with a lighter for a few seconds to help them apply easier.

8. What beauty products do you love to splurge on?
I splurge on foundations and lipsticks, usually.

IMG_4582

9. Which beauty vloggers would you bring on a shopping spree?
Probably Estee (Essiebutton) and Jaclyn Hill. They just seem to know their shit.

10. What is your signature scent?
It’s a toss up between vanilla and roses. I love the smell of both, and I like to smell like either…or both. I’m a huge fan of rose water and smelling like baking products.

11. I am on an endless quest for the perfect…
FOUNDATION. Either it’s too dark, too yellow, or looks cakey on my skin. No foundation has ever been the right everything on me. So. Frustrating.

12. How many beauty products does it take to get you ready?
Pleading the 5th on this question because I am too lazy to even count how many. Trust me, it’s more than enough.

13. What lipstick/lipgloss is in your purse right now?
All of these:

IMG_4584

I typically keep a good mix of balms, glosses, and lipsticks in my purse. Just in case. I gotta have options.

14. Who is your celebrity beauty icon?
Dita Von Teese. Her makeup is so flawless and classic. I need to know what pale princess products she uses as well. Le Sigh. I’m also a huge fan of Kat Von D though. She goes above and beyond and seems to always think outside the box. Is Kat Von D considered a celebrity?

15. Name the beauty brand you’d most love to be a spokesperson of.
Probably Kat Von D or Too Faced. I truly love almost everything they come out with from the packaging to the product. Very fun and creative brands.

16. What’s your current nail polish?
IMG_4790

I’ve been loving these little babies. So great and incredibly affordable.

17. Favorite mascara right now?
I’ve been loving the Physicians Formula eyelash extensions kit and my Maybelline lash sensation.

18. The last thing you bought at Sephora?
I bought Kat Von D’s Everlasting Lipstick in “Vampira” during their last restock.

19. I try never to be seen without wearing…
I can’t be seen without my brows. I was not blessed with naturally full brows. That and without concealer I look like a living Tim Burton character, so I have to put on a bit of concealer and powder.

20. What’s one beauty product you always recommend?
The one I always find myself recommending is Manic Panic’s dream tone foundation in white for my fellow pale warriors. I also recommend having at least one red lipstick that makes you feel radiant and confident.

IMG_4853

Some of my personal favorite reds:

“Redrum” by Jeffree Star Cosmetics
Milani Matte Confident
“Zombettie” by Pretty Zombie Cosmetics
“Matador” by Magnolia Makeup

Swatch Saturday: New Milani Fierce Foil Gloss

IMG_4753

It should be of no surprise by now that I adore Milani lip products. I feel that in terms of quality, Milani is superb with lip products. So, when I saw that they came out with yet another new lip product, I knew that eventually some of them would be mine. I went to CVS searching for my favorite eyelash glue, and I saw an untouched display with all of the new Fierce Foil glosses, and they were BOGO 50% off. I mean, how could I resist? It’s for the blog, obviously.
At my local CVS, these were $5.69, which is the same price as their original line of lip shine glosses. Definetely not gonna break the bank with these.

IMG_4757

The packaging of these is the same classy gold packaging as Milani’s past lip products, but I did notice right off the bat that these glosses are packed with glitter. That also caught my interest. I. Love. Glitter. Lately, I can’t get enough glitter. I want it on everything. Anyway, I picked up 2 of the nude shades and the red shade (obviously) but there were a few other shades. The first thing I noticed when I opened up the packaging to swatch these was the intense smell. These smell like straight up red velvet cake. I know that’s oddly specific, but they really and truly do. So, if strong vanilla smells are not for you then stay away from these.

Second thing I noticed while swatching these is that they are just very glittery, and not very “foiled.” I suppose the glitter is what they meant by foiled, and maybe they would appear to have a foiled effect in direct sunlight, but indoors these just look glittery. I have no problem with that. I find that the intense glitter would make these perfect toppers to create fun and creative makeup looks.

Arm Swatches:

IMG_4740

I did swatches on the back of my hand since the nudes are hard to differentiate on my lips.
Left to right: Venice (a more transparent shimmer) Rome (a beige toned shimmer) Florence (a red with a berry undertone shimmer)

I will say that these are very sticky, and like many lipglosses do tend to sneak onto teeth easily as well. I found that on the lips these can feel a bit gritty if you rub your lips together because of the glitter, but it wasn’t too noticeable in my opinion. Also, these wear pretty away pretty quickly and do leave glitter behind. I wiped my hand after I did the swatches and it looked like I had shook hands with an army of fairies. My hand looked pretty…and smelled like cake.

I digress. I did do some lip swatches even though it’s hard to tell the differences in the nude shades.

Florence

Florence is my favorite one. I’m actually excited to play around with this shade and create some stellar intense red lip looks with it for Spring. I’m not a very pink person, so that’s the closest I can get to Spring related 😀

Overall, I find these glosses to be about as nice as their other glosses. Milani glosses are nice and not too sticky, in my opinion. The glitter in these may become annoying, and I don’t really see how these are supposed to be “foiled.” They just look super sparkly, which is okay…I like sparkly.

Has anyone else tried these? What were your thoughts and impressions?
