Face of the Day: Warm Eyes + Vampy Lip

IMG_7726

Hey beauties,

Today I have another Face of the Day post! I’m going to try to continue and post these every Thursday, and I also try to use new products mixed with some old favorites. Let me know if you’re all okay with seeing a makeup look every week!

IMG_7717

Today’s face was inspired by my want to slather one of the new shades from the Milani Moisture Matte lipstick line all over my face. I’m not even kidding. I also wanted to do something warm on the eyes, because I honestly love a very warm eye with a dark lip. The contrast is striking, in my opinion.

For my base, I went with Maybelline’s Master Illuminating primer and mixed one pump of Hard Candy’s “porcelain” glamoflauge with a little bit of Loreal’s Magi Lumi foundation (also the lightest shade)

Concealer is my usual NYX lavender and porcelain mixed, and I used it to highlight on the bridge of my nose as well. I set my face with Laura Geller’s balance and brightening powder in “porcelain.” My under eyes were set with physician’s formula correcting powder in “translucent.”

IMG_7741

Brows are Milani’s new brow pomade in “dark brown” set with Nyx’s brow mascara in “black”

I primed my eyes with concealer and used “succubus” from the Kat Von D Shade + Light eye palette to set the primer and help blend the colors out. Okay, I know I used a lot of different eye colors/palettes for this look so please bare with me. The first transition shade I used was from my Melt Cosmetics Dark Matter stack, the shade “unseen.” I’m obsessed with this shade. I then took “laetus” from the Shade+Light palette and lightly blended it with “unseen.”

IMG_7742

I took “sytry” on a flat brush and concentrated that in the crease. I I then took “Queensguard” by Shiro cosmetics on the entire lid, and made sure to clean up the crease a bit in the process. On a small angled brush I took “shax” and placed in concentrated on the outer part of the crease to further cut it a bit more. I took “blurr” from the Dark Matter stack and blended out any harsh lines on the outside shape and used “succubus” to highlight my brow bone.

Liner is physicians formula eye booster and Urban Decay’s 24/7 liner in “perversion.” I created the shape with the eye booster pen and filled it in with the liquid liner. I can’t stand the brush on the Urban Decay liner, but it truly is the blackest liquid liner in my collection.

Lower lash line is Stila Stay All Day smudger liner in “damsel” on my water line and all of that is smudged out with “Unseen” “sytry” and “laetus” in that order

Mascara on both upper and lower lash lines is Too Faced Better than Sex mascara. Lashes are Kiss 11.

Contour is Nyx’s HD blush in “taupe” and blush is Milani’s new rose blush in “Awakening Rose.”

Highlight is Nyx’s illuminator in “Ritualistic.” I recently pulled this highlighter back out and fell back in love with it! It’s a very pretty white gold shade that isn’t too overpowering on my fair skin. It’s also what’s on the inner corner of my eye and at the very top of my brow close to the arch.

IMG_7743

Lips are lined with Jordana’s liner in “cabernet” and topped with Milani’s Matte Fearless.

I set my entire face with Pixi’s glow mist setting spray.

Cute little flower band is actually from Rue 21, and they’re only $2 each so you need about 100.

If you have any questions about anything, please feel free to ask me! I hope you all enjoyed this look, and thanks for reading if you made it this far!

Have a lovely Thursday!

Things that Make Me Happy about Spring

Ah, Spring is officially here! The birds are singing, the flowers are blooming, and I am wheezing!

No really, Spring is my worst season of the year in terms of allergies and asthma. Hold your inhalers in the air if you feel me on this one.

Pre-kids I enjoyed Winter because I didn’t mind being alone and inside all of the time. Post-kids I am itching for Spring to be here so we can get the hell outside before we start ripping each others hair out.
So, today I just want to share some pretty pictures and things about what makes me happy about Spring.

IMG_4920

1. Glosses. I don’t know what it is about Spring and Summer, but I am all about glosses during these seasons. Anyone else like that? I think it’s because I am out and about a lot and lip gloss is just easier, yet it has the power to pull a look together. I don’t have to sit and line my lips and conceal for 5 minutes like I do with most lipsticks. I plan on giving my butter and elixir glosses some love this Spring. I’m trying to use what I have and buy less. Key word: trying.

IMG_4921

2. Bright Cheeks! Honestly, I rock a bright cheek all year around, but Spring is when I actually love to play with pinks and corals. Some of my favorites are the City Color Cosmetics blush quad, the Rose duo from BH Cosmetics, and Pearlescent Pink by Wet n Wild. Are you all seeing my obsession with roses and all things rose related yet?

IMG_4922

3. Dewy Skin. My skin is less dry in Spring so I can actually make my skin look a little dewy and glowy! It excites me, don’t judge me. I love the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum and the Loreal Magic Lumi I am trying to use up because I actually like the Bourjois one more. The Bourjois healthy mix serum gives me of a satin matte finish, and it smells so much better.

IMG_5127

4. More skin fun. It’s apparent at this point that I am the shade of paper. I used to try to tan and such, but as of 5 years ago I decided to stop it all together and be okay with my skin color. I do sun protect even on cloudy, rainy days in the Spring and Summer. I love this Yes To lotion because it’s thick and doesn’t break me out, and it has spf 30. I’ve also been loving the Pixi glow mist underneath and on top of my makeup. It gives a very healthy glow and feels nice on my skin. My only beef is the sprayer moves a lot and I’m clumsy and miss my face sometimes, thus wasting product.

IMG_4924

5. Bright(ish) nails! Raspberries and neutrals and sometimes lavender is about as adventurous as I get with my nails. You’re judging me, aren’t you? I like my box. My box is safe. My box is gray and cold. Some of my favorite nail polish brands include elf, essie, and wet n wild.

IMG_4923

6. Spring Cleaning and rediscoveries! I really need to go through my palettes and rotate them out and dust a few off and show them some love. I have been trying out so many new products that I have kind of pushed aside some other goodies that I truly do love, namely my Naked palette. I used to use that precious palette everyday. Everyday. Now, with every other neutral palette in existence I haven’t shown the original heartbreaker any of my attention.

Gah, I talk about palettes like they’re children. Maybe I should rotate my children out too and clean them…

Kidding, y’all.
I need to also give my Dark Rose palette some attention because I truly do love it, and I think it may become a staple for me for Spring looks for that “pop of color.” The colors in this palette work together in weird and mysterious ways. I need to unlock it’s magic.

There I go again about palettes…

Anyway those are some things that make me happy about Spring, beauty wise. Life wise I can’t wait to get out and take both my daughters to parks and hear their giggles. I also need to do a huge de-clutter in my life and around my house and just get rid of things.
What are some things that make you happy about Spring, if anything?

As always, thanks for stopping by and reading and I hope you are all having lovely days! Please sign up for email notifications or follow me on here to see more from me if you like me!

First Impression: Nars Luminous Weightless Foundation & Creamy Radiant Concealer

IMG_4555

Okay, so I am so sorry for the ridiculously long title. Is it just me, or does the person that comes up with the names for Nars products get way too much joy over creating long title names? I imagine whomever it is sitting in a chair twirling around saying, “Muahaha! Now you’re all tongue tied and the titles to your reviews are OBNOXIOUSLY LONG!”

Anyway, I decided that I needed to do a bit of an overhaul of sorts with my foundations and concealers. I haven’t been happy with many of them in awhile, or at least not as happy as I should be. So, today I am doing a bit of a 2 in 1 review deal since I ordered both of these around the same time.

When I saw that Nars had a new “luminous” foundation my heart fluttered. I knew I needed it. Nars typically has a very great shade range, and has a few that are snowflake complexion friendly.
Tip: on their site there’s actually a “foundation matcher” where you can type in the current foundation that you use, and it will match you with one of theirs. I typed in Kat Von D’s Tattoo Lock it Foundation in “Light 42” and was matched with “Mont Blanc.” There is actually a lighter shade than that called “Siberia” but I didn’t go with that one because from what I saw from swatches, it’s literally white and yellow looking and I was afraid that it would appear chalky on my skin.

So, I went with Mont Blanc in the foundation. I ordered “Chantilly” in the concealer because about every pale princess blogger I follow owns it, and I decided I needed to own it. Youtube made me do it.

Price: I ordered both from Nordstrom.com because I am not too weird about collecting points from Sephora, and the foundation was $48 and concealer $30, but I got 6% back on ebates…which was nice because I think my bank account squawked at me.

So, yes, this is very much a high end product. One of my resolutions for this year though was to treat myself to a few more luxury and high end products to avoid constantly buying cheap things that I don’t end up using. For me, spending a bit more on skin products really helps me to actually use them.

Application: Foundation this foundation is very liquidy, and you do have to shake it up quite a bit before using it. It also dries pretty fast, so keep in mind that you do have to work a bit quickly with it to apply it evenly before it starts drying. I found that this applied best with a damp beauty sponge (I use the real techniques miracle complexion sponge) and by dotting it all over my face before blending. Because it dries so quickly, I felt like if I had tried to use a brush it would’ve created streaks. However, if you do use a brush one tip may be to spritz your brush a bit with water or setting spray.

Concealer This concealer is litereally the creamiest concealer I have ever used. Whether I use my fingers to tap it on or a damp beauty blender, it applies beautifully. I now see why this concealer is such a cult favorite.

Color Match Foundation: This shade is actually pretty spot on for me. “Mont Blanc” is described on the site as a fair shade with pink undertones, just like how Kat Von D’s “Light 42” is described. Pink undertoned foundation is something I struggle with so much to find, since so many are either yellow or beige toned.

IMG_4567
Excuse my “mom” makeup!

Concealer: I purchased “chantilly” to use as a brightening and highlighting shade, and it’s literally the only concealer I have ever tried that is a shade lighter than my skin. I don’t have to play makeup chemist and mix things, which is nice. Perfect color for me.

How it settled Foudnation: Ah, this is something that’s a big deal for me because I often run into with foundations that many will apply beautifully and once they settle they look like shit. However, this one actually looked nice on me after it settled. I was so nervous after I ordered it because a few bloggers had complained about it sticking to dry spots and making pores look large, but I had that in mind ahead of time and did my “your skin is super shitty and dry today” prep routine that I find myself doing often anyway in the winter time. I used a hydrating primer and setting spray and it looked great even after it settled for a few hours!

IMG_4560

Concealer: This didn’t settle into my fine lines at all underneath my eyes. It didn’t cling to dry patches. I have natural fine lines under my eyes and concealers tend to crease thanks to my eye shape, but this concealer didn’t crease at all. Can you tell I’m in love with it yet??

Longevity Foundation: This claims to be an all day foundation, so I put it to the test. I applied it at about 10 am and wore it until around 9 pm, which is a typical day for me. It did stay put the entire day, however at about 7 pm I did notice it clinging to dry patches really bad around my nose. That’s something that happens with every foundation I have ever tried though. My nose is a problem area thanks to eczema. I also didn’t powder or spray my face with anything to truly test the foundation, so that’s something to keep in mind.

Concealer: This concealer didn’t seem to fade or look weird after a long period of time. The color stayed true, and even after a long period of time my undereyes still looked bright and happy.

Overall: I love both of these products! So far, I am extremely happy with this purchase, despite how expensive they are. I haven’t had to not mix my manic panic foundation in anything in so long, which is so nice. The fact that these products actually cut time out of my routine is awesome for me because I didn’t have to mix things to get a nice color match.
Even if you’re still not sure about the foundation, try the concealer. Not even kidding, I wish I had bought it sooner and just given in. It’s incredible.

First Impression: Body Shop Honey Bronzer

IMG_3171

I will probably be doing a few mini/quicker reviews this week since this time of the year is very busy for me (and many others). However, I did want to talk about this little gem that arrived in my mail the other day.
I’m not a huge bronzer fanatic, mostly because most bronzers tend to make me look orange. I think this is a problem for many people with very pale skin. However, I’ve seen Essie from EssieButton talk about this bronzer a million times, and when I finally found it for 50% off and with free shipping on The Body Shop’s site, I decided to give it a try.

I got the shade light (duh) and it is indeed very light and very matte. That’s right, there’s no shimmer in this baby and that’s downright amazing. I applied this after I contoured my face using Nyx’s blush in “taupe” and this bronzing powder did not look orange, and it did not turn orange throughout the day. I went to a dinner/baking party last night and when I left 5-6 hours later I noticed my face still had a pretty nice (but very subtle) bronze glow to it.

I now see why Essie raves about this product so often.

Pros:
-Very suitable for pale skin
-Decent amount of product (11 g total)
-Beautiful packaging and presentation
-Long lasting
-No orange/red tones
-Matte

Cons:
-Price. It’s $20 regular price, which is higher, but the body shop has sales so often that it would be easy to catch it at a great price.

Overall, I’m very happy with this product and will continue to use it as my go-to bronzing powder for now during the Winter. I would definetely reccomend this to any other pale friend out there that struggles to find something that doesn’t look orange on their skin.

Thanks for dropping by and make sure to follow me if you want and talk to me and stuff 🙂
