Hardcandy Ombre Baked Blush and Highlighter Duo

hard cany

Hey lovelies,

Today I wanted to share a few products that I have had for awhile and have been meaning to review and swatch. If you’re new here, there’s something you should know: I love Hard Candy makeup. I think they’re an underrated drugstore brand and I wish I saw more people talking about their products! There are some misses, but lately they have been coming out with some stellar and affordable products, and I want to share a few with you all today.

The two products I want to share are an ombre baked blush and a highlighter duo. The baked blush I believe is permanent, but the heart shaped highlighter is not, sadly.

If you’re unfamiliar with Hard Candy, they’re a Walmart exclusive brand that is also cruelty free. I have done a review of their new Natural Eyes palette that I will link at the end of this post.

IMG_6881

First up, this baked blush. Can we just admire it for a second? It’s so gorgeous. I love baked blushes in general because I find them to be pigmented and shimmery, so many times they act as a highlighter-blush in one. No need for extra steps in my routine on a busy morning? Score! What’s unique about this ombre blush though is that you can kind of “customize” the shade you want based on where you apply your brush. You can go to the white side for just a highlight. You could go on the other side for an intense pink, or somewhere in the middle for a very pretty pink glow. It’s up to you!

This product is very pigmented and swatches very well. It looks beautiful on the cheeks. I have the shade “punch” but I’m really tempted to go and pick up the other shade as well. I find that it doesn’t take much at all to get color to your cheeks, so be wary of that if you’re not into the intense Snow White kind of look (I am, not gonna lie).

IMG_6872

Swatches shown left to right: highlight side alone, everything swirled together, pink side alone

See, it’s totally like getting 3 colors in one product! I love this little baked blush.

Highlighter duo: First off, the cute little heart tin packaging spoke to me. So reminiscent of the Too Faced heart-shaped boxed blushes. It’s not as fancy as the Too Faced ones, but it’s still cute in terms of drugstore packaging. This was part of the collection Hard Candy released for their 20th anniversary.

IMG_6880

There are two sides, obviously. A lighter and darker side. I didn’t know how the darker side would look on my fair skin, but surprisingly this product leans more on the “natural glow” side than the “wam bam highlighter in yo face” side. There’s no visible glitter in it. The texture and finish reminds me much of Physician’s Formula highlighters, and those are my absolute favorite highlighters in the drugstore.

This duo felt very soft and buttery to the touch. You can tell when you touch it that it is finely milled. I’ve also seen people depot the heart very easily by just popping the little booger out and into a z-palette, if that’s something you would want to do.

Because this is a duo, you can use either side or mix both shades together. The swatches I have are of just each side.

IMG_6873

I had to go over each swatch a few times simply because this product really does give a natural glow and it’s pretty hard to overdo it.

It lasted fairly well on my face, but I will say that after about 8 hours it seemed to fade away. I don’t touch up many times throughout the day, so that’s something to keep in mind if you’re wanting to wear this all day…it might fade after awhile. Would this be work appropriate? Yes. Appropriate for a night out at the club? Maybe not.

I will say that overall I’m happy with this little tin of prettiness, and I think this will look pretty in the Fall when I want a more toned done “glow from within” type of look. It’s a very pretty champagne highlighter that is pretty good quality in terms of drugstore highlights. Do I like this more than my holy grail Physicians Formula?? No, but I do think this is a nice and cute thing to add to your collection if you’re a Hard Candy lover.

As always, thanks for reading this post if you made it this far, and if you’re new here I hope you stay awhile!

Battle of the BB Creams

bb cream

Hey lovelies,

Spring is obviously here for many of us, but if you live somewhere humid as snot *raises hand* it already feels like Summer. Not gonna lie, I’m not a huge fan of Summer. If I didn’t have kids, I probably wouldn’t go outside much. I hate feeling like I’m melting.

When I do go out, I typically wear a BB cream as my main base with a tiny bit of powder on top. Full coverage foundations in The South probably aren’t gonna look cute in June and July no matter how much Urban Decay All Nighter you use..or at least for me. If you can wear full coverage in the Summer I envy you so very much. The humidity just makes it impossible for me to wear.

What is a BB cream? Some people say it stands for “beauty balm” and I’ve seen others say “blemish balm” but it’s a bit of an “all in one” type of product that covers and protects your skin, while also giving added benefits of SPF, hydration, etc. Some people wear these alone and some wear them underneath their foundations. It really depends on your preference and what you’re going for with your base.

So, today I want to talk about a few BB Creams that I have tried out over the past year and my thoughts on each. I’m going to rate these on a scale of 1-5 based on coverage, price, finish, lasting power, and overall skin benefits.

IMG_6748

NYC BB Matte BB Cream- Score- 3/5

I do like this bb cream since it is very decently priced, and surprisingly the “light” shade from this line is more of a color match for me than any other bb cream in this post. However, it just doesn’t set right on my skin at all. I have tried exfoliating, a serum, brush, sponge…everything. It will  look great when I first put it on and then when I look at myself an hour later I have granny face. It gives me wrinkles and I don’t even have wrinkles! It also doesn’t have spf or anything, and that’s not gonna cut it for this ghost girl in the spring time. I’m giving it a 3 because even though it doesn’t work for me, it would probably work great for someone with fair and oilier skin than me! It’s also the cheapest cream in this post, and is about $3 at most drugstores that carry NYC.

IMG_6750

Lioele BB Cream- Score 4/5

I have done a review on this bb cream in the past, but I recently came back to it and I really like it. It’s thick, but I can still put it on with my fingers and get even coverage. The color match isn’t great for me, but it does mix very well with my Hard Candy Glamoflauge foundation (930 porcelain). The price is probably not ideal for many, but I did snag this on sale on prettyandcute.com awhile back, and I know that it’s also sold on amazon and ladymoss.com. I don’t believe this one has spf either. I want to say this foundation is about $15-20, but it depends on where you’re buying it from in some cases. There’s no SPF in this BB cream, but it is very hydrating and lays well on the skin. This BB cream is a great one that I will probably continue to reach for and just wear SPF underneath it.

IMG_6751

Rimmel Matte BB Cream- Score 4/5

This BB cream is actually one that I reach for often even though I have dry skin and tend to avoid matte finishes. It has a really nice buildable medium coverage and has SPF in it. That makes it not very photo-op worthy, but it is good for your skin and will protect you from the sun. This is very affordable and readily available to many since it’s a drugstore BB cream. It doesn’t get a 5 though because the shade “light” is so off. I can easily correct it with my hard candy glamoflauge foundation or manic panic foundation, but it is annoying. This BB cream also claims to be beneficial to skin in 9 different ways, and it’s one that I do recommend trying if you’re looking for an affordable drugstore BB cream.

IMG_6749

LA Girl Pro BB Cream- Score 4/5

This is the newest BB cream I’ve been trying out because Nicole from young, wild, and polished recommended it to me in a comment I left on one of her videos. At $4 I figured it was worth a shot. I have the shade “fair” which is a better match for me than the Rimmel, but still pretty dark on me. However, the finish is really lovely and leaves a nice satin-but-not-too-dewy glow to my skin. I didn’t give this a 5 because there’s no SPF, but because it’s HD it will  work really well if you vlog like myself and don’t want to wear a heavy foundation on camera in the Spring and Summer. Also, this BB cream is a bit high maintenance for me some days. I feel like I have to powder my face more than usual (which is odd to begin with me, I almost never need powder) but when it’s a bit more humid than usual I feel this BB cream tends to slip a bit on my skin. So, if you have oily skin this may not be the best for you, but it’s still worth a shot given LA Girl is so affordable.

So, that was it for the BB creams I currently have in my stash. As you all can see, none received a perfect score, but none are very poor either in my opinion. Or maybe I just try to see the good in everything…who knows.

What are some of your favorite BB creams? I know that one I may end up biting the bullet and buying is the It Cosmetics CC cream because from what I can see the “fair” shade is actually made for those with fair skin and the coverage and finish looks stunning on everyone I’ve seen it on. I know it’s not a “BB” cream, but close enough to me.

I hope you all enjoyed this post, and I hope to add some more posts about random things in my stash in the future!

Ipsy Unbagging: May 2015

ipsy april

Hello, Jetsetters

I have an Ipsy unbagging for you all today, and yes, the theme is “Jetsetters” for the month. Remember when I said that last month’s bag was my all time favorite? I changed my mind, this is my new favorite bag. Seriously look at how freakin’ cute it is. There were several bags that were given out, and from what I’ve seen they’re all cute.

Anyway, if you’re new here a quick description of Ipsy is that it’s a beauty subscription that arrives at your doorstep once a month, and costs $10 per month. Each person takes a beauty quiz of sorts and is given 4-5 full sized or deluxe sample sized beauty items based on that quiz. There’s typically a pretty good mixture of high end and indie/non mainstream brands, especially lately it seems. I really feel that the Ipsy has stepped their game up and they are sending out some incredible things, or at least in my opinion they are.

bellapiere gel liner

The first thing I want to share from my bag is this BellaPierre gel liner. I wasn’t too thrilled about getting another liner, because I have about 10 that I need to use up from other beauty services…but then I swatched this one. I swatched it and it didn’t budge. I washed dishes, rubbed it with my hands…everything. It’s also very very creamy and smooth. I have a feeling that with allergy season upon us this liner may be my new best friend. Because there’s nothing better than being halfway through your day and having an intense sneeze fit and suddenly looking like a sad raccoon.

IMG_6657

Okay, I will admit that I squealed a bit when I saw this in my glamroom. I’m a lip product junkie, I know it. I embrace it. Or rather, my lip products are always embracing my lips in some way (ha!). In my bag this month I got a mini pencil (still a good amount of product) of Urban Decay’s 24/7 lip priming pencil. This pencil from what I gathered is supposed to prime and blur out imperfections on the lips. I have a feeling this will come in handy now that I have an HD camera and every little line can now be seen on my lips. I also got two little lipgloss samples in “Failbait” and “Bittersweet.” I’m normally not a fan of samples like these because I never use them, but Urban Decay is one of my favorite brands so chances are these will be used. I’m honestly dying to try that purple gloss out sometime soon.

IMG_6658

This was the other thing I was most excited about this month. I received a Luxie tapered blending eye brush, and I die over anything and everything rose gold. I actually ordered the Luxie angled face brush when they had a sale on it and I use that brush constantly for blush and it’s probably my prettiest brush I own. So, I was naturally excited to see I was going to be adding a new little rose gold pretty to my collection. Blending brushes are something I never seem to have enough of.

IMG_6659

Last, but not least, I received a deluxe sample of the Briogeo leave in conditioning spray and a sample of the Amie morning-dew mattifying moisturizer. I use leave in conditioners CONSTANTLY on my hair since I have naturally coarse and frizzy hair, so the spray I’m pretty excited about. I typically don’t use hair samples (I forget to, oops) but that one I will use.

I’m happy about the moisturizer, just not too sure how it’s going to be on my skin yet. A “dew” mattifying moisturizer seems like a bit of an oxymoron to me, but I will try it at some point.

Overall, I’m really happy with this month’s Ipsy bag! I feel that their sample game has been strong the past few months. If you’re subscribed to Ipsy, what did you get in your bag? Are you happy with it? Comment your thoughts or link me to your blog posts ❤

I have no idea if I should start doing “follow up” posts with my subscription bags, so if that’s something that would interest you, feel free to tell me! Or maybe I should make the follow up a video with a look put together with some of my favorite things received? I have no idea, ha!

As always, thank you for reading, and I hope that if you’re new to my blog you will decide to stay and follow me for a wee bit!

Friday Style

Hey lovelies,

Today’s post is going to be a short and sweet one…and different!
I was going through my closet and it hit me that I have rarely posted about my personal style.

I have mentioned that I love band tees, grunge fashion, and secondhand finds, but not a lot outside of that.
Truth is, I don’t have a set “style.” I wear whatever I feel like wearing that day. I have very girly pieces, vintage pieces, and a ton of graphic and band tees.

So, today I just wanted to share some pieces that I love in my closet that are not particulary your classic “staple pieces.” Just things that I love. I hope you all enjoy it, and if you would like more fashion related posts just let me know!

IMG_6270

Probably the things I wear the most: band tees and tanks. I like button up tanks because they’re easy for my to undo if I need to nurse Piper, and I love dressing up my band tees with cute collars. The mermaid on pictured is from Salem Couture.

IMG_6271

I also love fun and flirty outfits. This came from Rue 21, and I love the absolute snot out of that tulle skirt. It makes me feel like a darker Carrie Bradshaw.

IMG_6272

Both of these dresses are thrifted, and they are two of my favorite dresses. They cinch at the waist and I can nurse in them easily. Perfect date night dresses for me.

IMG_6273

I also wear skinny jeans and leggings often. The Slayer leggings are from Hot Topic and the dark skinny jeans are from Rue 21. Both tops were thrifted as well as the gold chain necklace.

That’s about it for today’s look into my personal style!

Have a good night 🙂

Lip Monthly April 2015

lip monthly

Hey beauties!

Today I’m back with another unbagging and review! Anyone else have a really odd love for beauty subscriptions? Or just monthly subscriptions in general? I really want to add a coffee service and possibly petit vour (they send only cruelty free and vegan beauty products every month) but we shall see. My boyfriend might oppose 😉

Anyway, if you’re new here *waves frantically* Lip Monthly is a beauty subscription that is $10 a month and sends out 4-5 (lately 4) products that are mostly lipsticks or glosses. So, a lipstick addict’s dream! I’ve been subscribed to them for about 5 months now, and for the most part I like it. Some things that I receive don’t exactly make sense or flatter my skin tone at all, and that’s one of my biggest beefs with this subscription. Everyone receives the same bag. Same products and colors…I don’t understand that, but it is what it is I guess.

IMG_6116(1)

This month I got 4 full sized products! The bag is valued at $37.99 which is pretty good considering I only paid $10 for it.

IMG_6118(1)

1. Cargo Gloss in “Anguilla” $16 This is in a travel sized tube, but it says there’s the same amount of product as a full sized product. This is a really pretty nude-pink gloss for those that like nude pink glosses. They’re not really my style, but I will try it because it may surprise me. I said the same thing about the butter glosses and now I can’t get enough of those…

IMG_6117(1)

2. City Colour Be Matte Lipstick “cammi” $4.99 I’ve actually been wanting to try the lipsticks from this line for awhile now! This color is one that I like as well, so win! It’s a very pretty dark purple shade. We all know how much I love my dark vampy colors…all year round.

IMG_6119(1)

3. LA Girl Lipstick “Last Night” $4 I own 3 shades from this line already, and I really like the formula! Very pigmented and creamy. With any creamy lipstick, they kinda get on my teeth, but I’m super expressive and I’m aware of it. This color is a bright ass pink, but it’s dark so it’s not as intimidating to me. I may try to pair it with the pink gloss to tone the shade down a bit. Yes, I’m odd, I don’t think twice about wearing green and blue lip colors, but pink scares me.

IMG_6120(1)

4. Ofra Eyebrow Pencil “Universal” $13 Okay, so don’t ask me how an eyebrow pencil is supposed to be a universal shade because I actually have no idea, but here we are. I’ve been reaching for this pencil everyday since I got it though! I do have to go over it with a black tinted brow mascara, but my hair is black and I like my brows to be dark as well. I’ve never used brow pencils regularly, so this is new territory. I’m more of a wax/pomade kind of gal. However, this pencil is really creamy and easy to work with. So far, I’m highly impressed with it.

Overall, I’m happy with this month’s bag. I go back and forth with this subscription constantly, I know. I quite possibly have a problem.

If anyone’s interested, I do have a code to get your first bag for $5 + 100 free shop points and it’s 1ST5

Friday Thoughts: Friendship

Hey lovelies,

Last week when I posted my thoughts I had so much positive feedback and it brought me so much warmth that I want to do another. Outside of makeup and beauty, I do reflect on life often and I feel that I should speak out sometimes. Because we’re all friends here, right?

We are, and that’s why I want to talk about something that has been a bit of a roller coaster for me the past 5 years…friendship. Some people have had the same friends since they were very little. I have a few friends that I keep in touch with every now and then from when I was very young, but not many.

Truth is, friendship has always been a weird aspect in my life. No, I promise you all that I’m not a mean and rude person in real life. Blunt and bit too headstrong? Sure. Malicious? No.

I have a very introverted personality, so it takes someone that’s the literal opposite of me (not all the time) to truly be my friend. I know that sounds odd, but very extroverted people are the types that reach out to me first and know that I’m not being rude, making plans just makes me feel anxious. They do all the talking so I can just sit back, listen, and giggle. It’s a very symbiotic kind of thing, really.

Then there’s the heartache that I’ve had with friendships over the past few years. Yes, friendships can be about as or even more heartbreaking than intimate relationships at times. On top of being very introverted, I’m very trusting and forgiving. These seem like great qualities, but it’s also qualities that others tend to take advantage of.

Don’t worry, this post isn’t going to turn into a salt fest where I get bitter and talk badly about others. I just wanted to point that out. I actually took a break from most of my friendships. My heart was broken, so I distanced myself. I still had my few very very close friends, but that was it. And let’s be real, kids also changed every single friendship for me.

Some friends understood (and still understand) and some friends distanced themselves from me. I knew it would happen. Does it hurt? Hell yeah. However, Harmony and Piper are my absolute best friends on this planet…I’ll take them over anyone, any day.

After all of the heartache I’ve had with friends, I found a light. Awhile back I met and started talking to a coworker of Jeremy’s (boyfriend) and we really seemed to get along well. Her bubbly and cute personality complimented my fairly reserved one. She also always understood that I can’t always call/text and meet people at random times due to having 2 kids.

I always thought of her as a friend, and we’ve always talked about hanging out more but life tends to get in the way.

We were texting back and forth about concerts coming to our city and I expressed that I wanted to go, but didn’t know if I could due to money, time and such.
Well, a few days ago she called me and told me that she had a ticket for me to go to one of the shows with her in May! I couldn’t really even find the words to express how excited I was, and I probably sounded a bit unenthused. But the truth is, as soon as I got off the phone with her I called my mom and made sure she could watch the girls for me and cleared me calender that day.

And then I sat down and cried.

…and I’m tearing up again trying to type this out. Honestly, she probably doesn’t even realize how much that simple of a gesture means to me on every single level. It made me feel loved and like I was worthy of what I feel will be a truly wonderful friendship. To feel that happy after so much heartache with friends is a feeling that’s so endearing. It’s not about gifts or anything, so don’t get that impression, please. It’s more about people keeping you in mind. Being in someone’s thoughts. Because many times we may not care what others think about us, but it’s nice at times to know that others do indeed think about us fondly.

Sometimes the life of a mom is hard in terms of adult friendships. Because as much as I love my kids and boyfriend, it’s nice to have a few people outside of that to vent and talk to. It’s also hard at my age to find people that want to be my friend without wanting to go out and drink constantly. Not that I look down on anyone that goes out for drinks, it’s just not always my thing. I like to go to shows and be outside enjoying nature with people. I like when people just come over and watch movies with me and raid my fridge. I’m the person to come to when you want to chill on the couch and not saying anything. I actually like silence and just being with people, but not a lot of people seem to be comfortable with that.

If you’re reading this, kind and beautiful friend, please know that I really appreciate you in every single way. I love that you understand that I can’t text all the time, and sometimes I need to cancel things because being a mom is tough and time constraining. Thank you for always being kind and so bubbly. You always make me feel like you are genuinely happy to see me, and that makes me so happy, even if I can’t properly express it outwardly.

Most of all, thank you for being a friend. (I feel like this is part of a song, oops)
Thank you for showing me that I am worthy of great friendships.
I know I’m not perfect, and I realize that I have made my fair share of mistakes with friends in the past. I want to change that and I want to start “fresh” in a sense and have a friend that doesn’t know that part of my past.

The world needs more friends like you.

As always, thank you for stopping by and reading this.

Oh, and I do love making new friends, so if you want to talk/connect with me…please do! You can through social media, email, or even by text if we’ve talked on here or other places often.

I’m trying to get out of my shell more and talk to more people. Blogging has helped me with that exponentially. I find myself actually saying things to others first way more often and trying to hold a conversation without wanting to hide in a corner. So, I have so many of you that follow me and comment to thank for that.

A Day at the Aquarium

I don’t talk about my personal life on my blog often, but let’s just say the past few weeks have been…hectic. Jeremy has been at work almost every day for weeks straight and sometimes working double shifts. It’s taken a toll on all of us, so when Jeremy said he has two days off (finally) we jumped at the chance to take the girls out and have some fun.

We chose the aquarium. We live really close to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg in Tennessee. I love that the mountains are basically in my backyard! It’s been so long since I’ve seen them in all their glory. It was so refreshing to get out and just have some fun and forget about life problems for a day.

IMG_5891

Okay, so Harmony and I were completely enchanted with these things. They were called “brainless bulbs” but look at how beautiful they are?!? I have no idea why they were so fascinating.

aquarium

Harmony adored the penguins. They’re pretty lovable and this little guy was a ham.

IMG_5893

So, I really love Noel the penguin. Noel just seems so happy, yet so sleepy.

IMG_5890

…but then at the end of the day I realized I am more like Frank the penguin. I need a nap.

Glambot Review & Haul

Hello Beauties,

I decided to film a quick video reviewing Glambot and show what I got from their site during their last huge sale.

glambot

I purchased these products with my own money.

And it was well worth it. I spent a whopping $15 on 5 high end eyeshadows that are all practically brand new! I highly recommend this website if you’re a makeup lover on a budget, but also loves high end products.

…because that’s the story of my life.

And like I said before, I was not contacted by Glambot to do this at all. I’ve just been wanting to shop their site for awhile now and I couldn’t pass up 80% off Urban Decay shadows!
